I would have given this 4/5 but the book's got a pretty bad case of 'Star Trek Syndrome' where all the characters know about, or are obsessed by, mid-20th century Western culture (the latest direct reference I caught that I remember dates to 1983), and that stuff gets real tiresome.
Also there's violence against a dog. (But it does pass Bechdel).
There's no indication that this is the first book of a series, and it does have an ending, but plenty of room is left for plot if this does turn out to be the first of a trilogy or something.
This is a very readable and well balanced book that is always moving forward. I look forward to the next installment.
For me, it started a little slow, but once I was past the first 50 pages I was staying up until the wee hours of the morning because I couldn't stop.
I wouldn't be surprised if this one gets picked up for a movie.
