Then they asked if we had other foods that we could do this with. I found some seaweed, thin rectangular sheets. So we went outside and sat on the back deck and studied the seaweed: the shape, texture, colour, feel, smell. Then we tried slowly eating it. Again, they were totally engaged. We ate the whole little package of seaweed. When we later went to the park and they had a snack of cheese and crackers, they were telling me all the things they noticed about the cheese.
I was absolutely thrilled with the response the book had received and I was delighted with the fun we had had exploring both the apple, the seaweed and then the cheese.
