From the brand
Noctua Cooling Solutions
Noctua's premium cooling components are internationally renowned for their superb quietness, exceptional performance and quality.
Product Description
The NH-D9L is a premium grade dual tower CPU cooler that has been designed to provide excellent quiet cooling performance at a height of only 110mm. Its comparably low profile (15mm lower than classic 9cm tower coolers such as the NH-U9S) doesn’t only ensure full 3U compliance but also makes the NH-D9L ideal for compact HTPC and Small Form Factor cases that have airflow paths parallel to the mainboard. Thanks to its 95x95mm footprint, the NH-D9L clears the RAM and PCIe slots on all Intel based and most AMD based ITX mainboards. The included NF-A9 premium fan supports automatic speed control via PWM for outstanding quietness of operation and a second, optional NF-A9 fan can be added for further improved performance in dual fan mode. Topped off with the trusted, pro-grade SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system and Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-D9L forms a highly compact premium package for space-restricted applications.

Low-profile tower design with 3U compatibilityWhile most low-profile coolers blow air towards the motherboard, the NH-D9L is a tower style cooler that blows parallel to the mainboard, which allows for superior airflow efficiency in cases with front intake and rear exhaust fans that create an airflow path parallel to the mainboard. The NH-D9L's reduced height of 110mm also allows it to fit 3U chassis. This makes it ideal for noise-sensitive 3U applications in fields such as audio or video processing. |
100% RAM compatibilityWith its 95x95mm footprint, the NH-D9L does not overhang the RAM slots on current Intel and most AMD mainboards. This gives the user full access to the memory modules and ensures 100% compatibility with tall heatspreaders or optional memory fans. |
100% compatibility with PCIe cards on mini-ITXWith its 95x95mm footprint, the NH-D9L does not overhang the RAM slots on current Intel and most AMD mainboards. This gives the user full access to the memory modules and ensures 100% compatibility with tall heatspreaders or optional memory fans. |
NT-H1 thermal compoundNoctua’s much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease of use and outstanding reliability. Chosen again and again by overclockers and enthusiast users worldwide, it has established itself as a benchmark for premium-quality thermal compounds. |

Also Noctua's mounting system is fantastic.. by far my favorite HSF mounting system. So easy to install/setup, and it just works. Noctua is my go to brand when it comes to using Air Cooling and with good reason! It works well, everything is well engineered.. even the packaging breaks down easily and is recyclable. They cover everything and even include an additional fan mount in case you want to add a 2nd fan.
It can even work with the fan stopped when idling, though it's sort of pointless because it's so quiet.
Install was fairly easy although I had to remove the m.2 heatsink to install the "clamps", but putting it back after was a non-issue. It clears the RAM even though it's not low profile (it stops just shy of it), and also clear the VRM heatsink, on this small yet busy ASUS ITX board.
I was afraid to go so small, but since this is a computer that gets transported all the time I needed something light and not too tall (to reduce the moment, and thus the stress on the motherboard during transport). It was between this and the NH-L9x65, the latter of which uses a low profile fan which doesn't perform as well (but still good!).
Now I need another NF-9A fan to use as my exhaust fan (to replace the noisy one that came with this Cougar QBX case), but they're out of stock everywhere.

Pros:
-relatively low-profile for a tower-style cooler, standing at only 110mm tall (if fans sit flush with top of heatpipes)
-fans can provide airflow for memory or VRM depending on direction/orientation
-quiet operation even at max fan rpm (2000 rpm is inaudible in an NCase M1 at 50cm)
-compatibility with most consumer platforms, latest 2019 comes with AMD AM4 mounting brackets and clips for an additional 92mm fan
-able to keep an overclocked Ryzen 7 8-core (voltage: 1.25V) at < 75C
Cons:
-AM4 mounting brackets only allow one orientation for mounting (requires separately sold AM4 mounting kit for brackets allowing other orientation)
-very difficult to get fans to sit flush against top of heatpipes, requires lots of tinkering
-additional fans will have to be mounted with a height off-set, making the total cooler height > 110mm
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, not overclocked
Case: Thermaltake Versa H15, with one additional intake (front) and exhaust (top) fan installed
After installing this, the temperatures on my CPU dropped by 8 degrees Celsius at idle (from 41 degrees average; down to 33 degrees average), and by over 15 degrees under full load (80 to 83 degrees average; down to 65 degrees) versus what they had been with the stock AMD Wraith Spire cooler. This is in a room with an ambient temperature of 23 to 25 degrees Celsius. I noticed absolutely no difference in noise levels versus the the stock cooler. While quite large compared to stock coolers, this one is very small compared to the majority of tower coolers, with a height basically equal to my graphics card.
The kit came with all the pieces for mounting on an AM4 motherboard. The installation was not difficult, and this was on a motherboard already installed in a very tight case. If mounted before installed in a case, as you normally would when building a PC from scratch, it would be even easier. The instructions were straight forward, and written in proper, grammatically correct English. There is a separate instruction booklet for AMD and Intel.
I've never had a CPU cooler give me such dramatic improvement before. I am very impressed, and would recommend to anyone looking to just lower their CPU temperatures, or for moderate overclocking. I'm even considering buying another one to put into my mother's computer to replace the barely adequate Cooler Master Hyper T2 I installed in there. Noctua's reputation is clearly well earned.

Configs and results:
1. Noctua NH-D9L with Noctua NT-H1: Started here. I was getting about 35C to 38C Idle on the CPU with the fan at 950ish rpm. When I did the multi core CPU test on Cinebench 2024 the temp would jump up to the 100C throttle temp almost immediately and would bounce right at that for the duration of the 10 minute test. The fan ramped up to 2000rpm for the duration.
2. Noctua NH-D9L with ARCTIC MX-6: The Artic paste dropped my idle temp down a bit to 34C to 36C. All other tests had the same results as the 1st test.
3. Thermalright PA with TF7: Got a really nice drop here down to 28C to 30C idle with the fans spinning at 720 rpm. When running Cinebench it did eventually get to the 100C throttle, but it was about 5 minutes into the 10 minute test before it did. The temp was generally bouncing around 90C throughout the test. The 2 fans got up to 1550 ish rpm and were much quieter than the single Noctua fan.
4. Thermalright PA with ARCTIC MX-6: The change in paste had no effect on thermals or fan speeds over the TF7.
Bonus: I replaced the 2 fans that came with the Thermalright PA with 2 be quiet! Pure Wings 3 120mm Quiet PWM I ordered for a case. This had no effect on the thermals but the fan speeds are slightly slower at 700 rpm idle and 1500 rpm under Cinebench. More importantly, they run noticeably quieter. Under standard use I cannot hear them at all.
Takeaway 1: For $35 the Thermalright PA is a fantastic cooler and the larger dual fans make it quieter than the Noctua NH-D9L. I do like the size of the NH-D9L but for a gaming system the Thermalright PA will be my new go to.
Takeaway 2: CPU Grease makes much less of a difference than I thought. Maybe it is just the ones I tried but the reviews on the Artic MX-6 were stellar yet it barely did better than the Noctua NT-H1 that came with the cooler and didn’t do any better than the TF7 that came with the Thermalright PA. Save your money here and use it to buy better fans.
CPU is an Intel i7-14700kf on a GIGABYTE Z790 Eagle AX Motherboard with an 850 watt EVGA Power Supply if you want to know.
Cumple muy bien con su función y eso es lo que cuenta, lo demás pasa a un ínfimo segundo plano.
