This device works great for making spätzle and you can modify the sizes by the batter viscosity and the speed with which you slide the hopper over the grate plate. Tabs on the plate secure its position on top of the stock pot while you slide the hopper. I drop batter in with a large tablespoon and press the batter down but it would be nice to have a plunger tool which fits into the hopper to make this operation smoother. I may fab up a plunger from wood myself. The device can be a bit finicky to clean, mostly ensuring the batter is removed from the narrow space between the grate plate and the hopper. Overall it has been fun making excellent homemade gluten free spätzle. Rinsing the cooked spätzle immediately in warm water in a colander is necessary. As well, a splash of oil in the stock pot water might help avoid a sticky clump. We do both, with success.

I've made spaetzle about 6 times after having some at an expensive, upscale restaurant a little over a year ago. I've tried the ziploc bags with holes in it, and I've tried pushing it through a strainer with the bottom of a glass. Both methods work to some degree, but are terribly wasteful, time consuming, and require two people in my case.

My wedding anniversary was coming up and since I wanted to cook lamb chops and roasted asparagus, I knew spaetzle would compliment them perfectly. After reading the raving reviews on Amazon.com coupled with the attractive price, I went ahead and purchased this. I was blown away by how effective and fast it was. I couldn't get over how something so simple could make my night so much easier and enjoyable!

I would definitely recommend it to anyone that enjoys alternatives to rice and potatoes that likes to cook. Seriously, but the ziploc bag away and buy this already.

I found the product to do exactly what I was expecting it to do. Very easy to use and cleans up no problem. The only problem is I was trying a new recipe requiring these little noodles and it turns out we don't like them. I added them to my stew and just felt they didn't really add anything to the end result of the stew. So I have a good product that I probably will not use only because we don't like the taste of the noodles. Anyone who does like these noodles then the Spaetzle Maker would be ideal. Very easy to use and does a good job. I gave it a good rating because it is a good item to have in a kitchen for who enjoy the end result.

The hopper slides easily into place and moves smoothly, producing textbook spaetzle.

You'll have an easier time - both making the spaetzle and cleaning the device - if you give it a spritz of cooking oil spray.

This works wonders. It is so much easier than using a spatula and a strainer/colander, which is what I was doing for years. I love the piece that keeps it in place over a pot, its very handy. The only downside I find is that some of the spaetzle mix gets into the sides (the track for the sliding piece) which is a little difficult to clean by hand. We went to clean it after dinner and it had dried up a little. Definitely something you should at least rinse off right away. Other than that, we love it.

I used to make Spaetzle with a cheese grater, a long drawn out process. This is amazing. When I received the maker, I could not envision how this was going to push the dough through the holes. It is so simple and easy. I had my Spaetzle done in 20 min (large bowl). The price point is also incredible. Clean up was very easy, I soaked the maker immediately after use.

Works like a charm. I grew up with an antique one (no kidding - wooden handle with peeling paint). this one is much easier to clean.
Cleaning tip: When you boil the pot of water, add a bit of oil, and dip the Spaetzle maker in to wet it before adding the dough. Also, don't leave it sitting until dry ;)

I used a strainer in the past, but using this for the first time changed everything. It is awesome and the recipe that comes with it is good as well. You will have to add a little more water though, but I served it up to Germans and they said it tasted authentic.
I still can't believe how much easier this product has made my life.
