Product Description

Sometimes we’re lucky enough to get that second chance – in life and in love. That Second Chance Series are stand-alone stories of strong women who battle heartache and loss with a courage and determination to find new paths and true love. What ties them together? A common theme: belief in the beauty of that second chance.

Not Your Everyday Housewife is Book Five of That Second Chance Series.

A wise and humorous tale of living large after 40 as women finally make peace with themselves—wrinkles, blubber, neuroses, exes, and all.

Three women embark on a month-long “discovery” journey and uncover quite a few tidbits along the way…one bottle of Clairol Midnight will not cover a full head of red hair, and never talk to men wearing polyester pants hiked up with a tan belt. But most of what they unearth is about themselves—who they are, what they really want, what they really don’t want. The center of controversy is a Maid-for-You mixer, which symbolizes a boring, routine suburban life with no second chances—then along comes insight in the form of Tula Rae, a sixty-something salsa-dancing, Dalai Lama-quoting, four-time widow in Spandex and a gray braid who gives them a different perspective on life, love, do-overs, and the real reason a man buys his woman a Maid-for-You mixer, which she says is all about S-E-X.

That Second Chance Series:
Book One: Pulling Home (Also prequel to A Family Affair: The Promise)
Book Two: The Way They Were (Also prequel to A Family Affair: The Secret)
Book Three: Simple Riches (Also prequel to A Family Affair: Winter)
Book Four: Paradise Found
Book Five: Not Your Everyday Housewife
Book Six: The Butterfly Garden

About the Author

Mary Campisi writes emotion-packed books about second chances. Whether contemporary romances, women's fiction, or Regency historicals, her books all center on belief in the beauty of that second chance. Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes. When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five young adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab mix, Cooper, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley. Mary Campisi wrote this 5th book in the second chance series about three 40's women.. So fantastic to see a book about lives and loves of older women..From the first page I was hooked completely.. these women are friends yet so so different..The three women one who feels she is taken for granted.. one whose husband is a serial adulterer.. and one whose husband kept a secret from her for 2 years.. of course they are all tied together by their close friendship even through their differences ... This book really shows how a true friendship no matter how different they are will come though even the toughest situations all the twist and turns in the story.. tears and angst and that was from ME!!.. Never thought the instructions and details of Food Mixer would be like instructions for SEX !!!! did they all get their HEA.. well I will not give the story away you will have to read this story.. you will not go wrong..Many Thanks Mary Campisi for another fantastic book...

HASH(0xa2d9b924) out of 5 stars Suzie Housley, Midwest Book Review Dec 5 2011

Life has a way to not turn out as you anticipated it. Three women embark on a journey to escape their own lives. Will their escape be enough to deal with life's hardships?

Cyn Cintar feels as though her family takes her for granted. She is battling feelings of being a middle aged woman. She finds her restless spirit wants to break free of her routine lifestyle.

Money has never been an object for Derry Rohan; she has lived a life to the fullest. When she learned that she was unable to conceive a child, her and her husband Alec adopts a boy named Charlie. When Derry learns that Alec is Charlie's father she feels betrayed; she questions how she will ever be able to trust him again.

Shea Donovan is a nurse who is the primary bread winner of her family. Her kids are grown and are away at college. Her husband's real estate career is almost nonexistence. To complicate matters Shea finds out that she is pregnant.

Cyn, Derry, and Shea know they need a break away from their hectic lives. They decide to take a month long vacation together to rejuvenate their spirit. Will the vacation provide enough rest and relaxation they all need to be able to go back to their own lives and deal with their own problems?

Mary Campisi has written an award winning novel in Not Your Everyday Housewife. From page one you gain an immediate attraction to all of her delightful characters. What makes this book so special is how easy it is for a person to relate to the characters problems. Not Your Everyday Housewife is not your ordinary romance. This book presents three strong plots that are all tied together by a close friendship. It shows how a true friendship has the ability to weathers even the toughest storm.

HASH(0xa2d9c72c) out of 5 stars Wonderful uplifting read April 15 2012

Not Your Everyday Housewife is a story that tells of three forty-something women and their lives. They embark on a month long vacation from their families to rediscover themselves. They end up staying with a quirky lady who would become a very good friend and mentor to them all. They do discover themselves, and of course, the story has a happy ending. Each of the characters had wonderful development, with none being outshone by any other. They each faced difficulties that all women are familiar with, and each found her own solution. I found it very refreshing that the female and male characters were treated as equals, there were no stereotypical bodice-ripping perfectly built specimens who came in and saved the day. I would definitely recommend this book and this author. I look forward to seeing more from her!

HASH(0xa2f9bdb0) out of 5 stars Barely got through the first few pages April 30 2012

I was bored with this book almost from the beginning and soon decided it would be a huge waste of my time to read it. The characters were flat and uninteresting. First was Cynthia's pity-party because she had to spend her 44th birthday alone - while she agonizes about some "secret" that she is afraid to tell her husband about. Then Shea comes over to "rescue" her when Cyn is sick from eating 2/3 of a chocolate cake. Soon the story jumps to Cyn, financially struggling but stoic Shea, and wealthy Derry commiserating over their individual plights. Derry brings up the fact that because she was unable to have children, she and her husband adopted a child, Charlie. Derry has discovered that Charlie is actually her husband's biological child. But no mention in this beginning part of the story is made of when Charlie had been adopted, how old he is, or anything else about him. The focus was on the "betrayal" of Derry. A very sophomoric story. I'm glad I didn't waste but a few minutes on it.

I must say that I truly enjoyed this book. I read the negative reviews, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I simply do not agree with the negative reviews. I found the characters and story all compelling. I finished this in less than 24 hours...that's how hooked it had me. I had to find out what would happen next.
