Product Description

Product Description

This is the Canadian edition of the ebook first published in a U.S. edition in November 2014. Like the earlier e-book it is intended as a teacher's guide and companion to the original edition of the novel Findependence Day, originally published in Canada in 2008. It provides a short plot summary of the novel chapter by chapter, along with a summary of the financial lessons contained in each chapter. It also includes a glossary that did not appear originally in the Canadian edition but did appear in the U.S. edition in 2013. It also has an updated bibliography of the major other financial books in Theo's Kindle, with live links to the Kindle titles.

I loved the Wealthy Barber, and the sequel to it, but this book shows how putting simple financial rules in place can work over a person's working life. I like the fact that the main players in the story had to change their financial plans and goals as circumstances warranted. Kids, losing a job and divorce are factors that can disrupt or even destroy financial plans. I also like the fact that because it was a fictional account of a couple's financial journey, the author could take the reader inside to see the emotional impact that these financial decisions had on them. The reader got to see fear, greed and risk on a personal level. The reader could also view the results of choices made and the consequences of those choices years later. My only quibble: The author is a Canadian, and the characters in the story are American. Therefore, some of the financial options listed in the book would not be available to Canadians. Still, this is a better read than many "how to" books on personal finances that are on the bookshelf.

I liked the financial lessons that are found at the end of every chapter. Although, I would have preferred that the author goes into some greater details about the financial strategy rather than just the surface.

Personal finance columnist Jonathan Chevreau picks up right where his first book left off. This e-book, entitled A Novel Approach to Financial Independence: How to reach your Findependence Day ... while you're still young enough to enjoy It, is best described as a Coles Notes version of his full-length novel, Findependence Day: How to Achieve Financial Independence. It drills down and covers the financial independence lessons learned and a short summary of the plot in each chapter. With the holidays right around the corner, it’s the perfect stocking stuffer. Whether you’re a financial planner looking to instill the wisdom of financial independence to your clients, or you’re a parent trying to get a jumpstart on financial literacy with your kids, this is the perfect e-book for you! It includes a handy glossary and bibliography with a list of the must-read financial books.
