The blades pop out with a simple lift. Some of the blades tuck underneath for storage which could cause some confusion but once you get the hang of it. It's pretty simple.
The trick is to not push down on your food too hard as this will create uneven slices.
It is easy to clean. The pads are rubber and stick well to my counter top.
Looking at my order I have been using this since may 2010 and it is still working very well.
plastic. ( term I use with some scorn in this case as it seems flimsy ).
This is not up to OXO standards.
I bought this a few weeks ago and would have written this review earlier but I managed to cut myself on one of the blades while trying to assemble scallop setting.
Hope this saves some fingers and $$$.

The first thing I'll say, be VERY careful. This thing is razor sharp. For the first while after I bought it I was a bit afraid of it, for good reason. I cut myself on it trying to put the blades back on after washing it for the first time. I have a healthy respect for it now. I've been using it more often in my efforts to overcome my fear of the thing!
The pros - almost all the parts store on the tool itself, so you won't lose them (these blades are NOT something you want hanging around in a drawer when you're groping around for something else). It does great at basic slicing. I've done potatoes, apples on it with the straight blade and the crinkle blade, onions on just the straight blade. The straight one is the easiest, but both work well, makes very attractive food. You can make paper thin slices or thicker, whatever floats your boat.
The french fry attachment works, but not nearly as well as the straight and crinkle blades. It's hard to push a big potato through it, I found that the guard just scraped along the back of the potato instead of pushing the potato into the blade. You may be tempted to just do it without using the guard to make life easier, but I would NOT recommend that, it could easily slice off a piece of your hand. Turns out it's a bit easier to push the potato through from the back of the spud, rather than just poking the guard into the middle of the vegetable. It made great looking fries, but it wasn't nearly as easy as I'd hoped.
I slice whole apples for my six year old's lunch with it.Read more ›
It does the job in terms of slicing food uniformly and with relative ease. The blades seem sharp enough and I like that there are a variety of blades included, along with storage for all of them.
The white plastic stains easily - from carrots, for example - which means it looks gross even after a thorough washing.
I love that the blades have storage spaces within the frame (so they don't get lost) - but I hate that the storage is in a place that means all of the blades get food on them (requiring a wash) if I forget to remove them from the storage area underneath.
I got this on sale, so it was worth the price. If I were buying one now, and paying full price, I'd probably save up and get one in stainless instead.
It is well made, fits together nicely, and chops efficiently.
The daily veg. prep with this apparatus is a snap!
