If you're looking for an alien version of Twilight - this is the series for you. The only two major differences is Daemon's not a butt-kisser and instead of vampires, there's aliens.
The romance was thrown in my face. Katy contradicted herself many, many times. I couldn't care about her.
Finally put down the book just over half way through. I hate not finishing books, but I hated this book more.
First, I need to point out what probably irritated me the most while reading this...the spelling errors and consistency mistakes.
-Katy asks Daemon what he's doing at her door...he tells her...6 paragraphs later, she asks him again "so, what are you doing here?". I yelled at my book like it could hear me.
-The author actually spells Daemon's name wrong at one point..."Damon"...seriously?
-Page 227, Katy wonders why Daemon is wearing jogging pants...Page 228, "he shoved his hands into the front pockets of his jeans"...ok.
-Other random spelling mistakes and missing words throughout the book, that were all very distracting while reading.
All that aside, the book was predictable for the most part. Especially the whole "gorgeous, confident male that ends up falling for the nerdy, introverted, plain girl." YAWN.
To be honest, I didn't have high expectations going into this novel. I picked it up based on a recommendation but either than that, I had not heard of it or seen anything about it whether it be online or at a bookstore/library.
The story was a little slow to start but it wasn't at a snail's pace. There were just a lot of unanswered questions and for a while it didn't seem like the story was progressing. But in the midst of all of the unanswered questions, we were getting angst. Lots and lots of angst.
While reading, I could say that the angst was frustrating but now after reading, I believe that all of it was necessary. It kept the story entertaining, it created a more meaningful relationship between the characters, and man, it was kind of enjoyable. Frustratingly enjoyable.
I also really liked the characters in this story. Kat, the main character, I LOVED. An introvert that loves to read and post book reviews online? Sold, I am there! Dee I also really enjoyed as she seemed like the quirky best friend that truly wanted a real friend that wouldn't abandon her. Daemon? Oh, we have some love/hate feelings on him but it's mostly love now (we'll see...there's future books). I totally understand the reason/purpose behind his attitude but there were definitely some jaw dropping parts where I'm surprised he didn't get hit (view spoiler)
This book really blew away all my expectations and I cannot wait to continue this series. I have ordered the books already. I know this series does have a following but I truly believe/wish that there was more out there surrounding and promoting this book because it was awesome (we have a fangirl right here) and prior to picking this up I had not seen/heard anything about it. Definitely recommend!
This book, this series, is highly gripping and addictive. Yea, it has similarities to Twilight, but holy crap it is just so much better. Katy moves next door to a mysterious brother and sister. And they turn out to be these awesome aliens. And in Daemons case, very hot alien. Katy and Dee start to become pretty close, but Daemon isn't having this. He doesn't trust humans. Katy and Daemons relationship in turn is pretty intense. Full of jabs and arguments, but hot. Katy doesn't back down from him and his jackass-ness. She's really feisty(hello Kitten). Get this, she's also a book blogger. I absolutely loved this! The terms and memes and everything that we bloggers do was right there. Awesome! Anyhow, the alien race Armentrout has created is pretty cool. Her characters and character development is near perfect. And the dialogue, especially between Katy and Daemon is spot on and a lot of them time pretty hilarious. Obsidian has it all; action, hot romance, aliens, lovable characters and characters you love to hate. I'm in love!
