Product Description

Masters Sweet Baked Goods—the best bakery in Benton Creek.

Run by Hendlee Masters and her grandmother, Masters Sweets is the heart and soul of what’s left of Hendlee’s family. Raised by her grandmother after her parents died when she was only five, Hendlee’s poured her time and energy into building her own life in the small town she loves.

Best friends are hard to find—and even harder to keep.

Hendlee didn’t start to notice her feelings for one of her friends—Quaid Castings—until she was in high school. By then it was too late. Unlike her, his plans for the future involved ditching town and enrolling in the Naval Academy.

Just one night with Quaid is all she wants, but when it finally happens, it’s not nearly enough. And he’s leaving in less than twenty-four hours.

The pursuit of happiness often requires leaving someone behind.

Quaid wants more than the country life. Joining the Navy is the best way to explore the world beyond the hills of Kentucky. Except chasing his dream means leaving behind the girl he’s been in love with all his life—Hendlee Masters.

When Quaid chooses a career in the Navy over the love of a small-town girl, will their fates once again align? Or will their love be lost in The Ocean Between Us?

HASH(0xa9c1a654) out of 5 stars An emotional small town romance March 12 2016
By Jolliffe - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is an emotional small town romance. It shines because of its realistic characters and accurate reflection of a small town’s ethos and values.
Blighted by tragedy, Hendlee is strong and loyal; her friends mean everything to her. Quaid looks out for her but now she wants more, even though he is hell bent on leaving their small town behind, maybe forever. Quaid needs to satisfy his wanderlust and the Navy is the perfect way. He is willing to deny his feelings for Hendlee until he’s achieved his ambition. Hormones intervene but he still leaves, promising to return. Fate and human nature intrude and make a happy ever after unlikely but fate hasn’t finished with Hendlee and Quaid yet. The romance is sensual and the dialogue authentic and contemporary. The plot is simple and a little predictable but I liked that. There are enough twists to keep me turning the pages and plenty of angst and lost opportunity. The ending is satisfying and I look forward to finding out what happens to Hendlee’s other friends.
I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
HASH(0xaad31288) out of 5 stars great start to a great series , looking forward to more March 16 2016

This was my 1st read by this author - I know how lame !! I truly enjoyed every page of this book , even the angsty bad choices. This is a sweet romance that is plagued with drama due to miscommunications and distance. I am always a fan of the childhood romances and this has the makings of that but the realizations may come too late...

Hendlee suffered a great loss at a very young age , that piece of the story ripped me apart. She grew up in a small town in Kentucky with her Maw and Paw. It was there that she made her 1st and bestest friend ever. Hendlee and Quaid grew up together all throughout school. Of course they both love each other and everyone can see it is way more than friends but by the time they face the facts Quaid is leaving and Hendlee is begging for things that Quaid is having trouble saying no to. Hendlee has always wanted to stay in town with her Maw and help with the family bakery , Quaid has an adventurous side and has no intentions of sticking around to work his family farm. Quaid leaves for what should be 9 weeks of boot camp - we all know that 9 weeks turns into months and that turns into years. After their last night together it seems that Hendlee and Quaid will have everything they ever wanted once he is done and back home BUT long distance relationships are hard , especially when others get involved and doubts set in. I was ripped apart for Hendlee and I just knew there was a storm brewing. 5 years later the misunderstandings , secrets and lies come to a head and I was shocked with how some of it played out. I loved how it ended and I cannot wait for what comes next but I was a little surprised at how easily some of it came together. Don't get me wrong there is enough drama and heartache BUT sometimes my twisted mind wants more LOL. They have a solid group of friends , well minus 1, and Quaid's family is amazing !! I also have to mention that Delisa writes a super hot sex scene and I was blushing and thinking that our convos may be slightly different from now on !!

After losing her parents at the age of five, Hendlee Masters is raised by her grandmother. She wants to stay in Benton Creek forever and help with the family bakery. She knows her feelings for her best friend Quaid Castings are true, but they're headed in different directions.
Quaid loves his best friend more than anything. The last thing he wants though is ti stay in Benton Creek. He wants to join the Navy and see the world. They vow to stay together but lies tear them apart. Will they find their way back to each other?
At first I was so disgusted with the way Quaid handled things. I couldn't believe he let things go the way they did. I hated the way he treated Hendlee all those years later. I did love how honest he was about his past with his girlfriend. He was very open with her about his relationship with Hendlee and what he thought happened.
Hendlee was very strong to handle things the way she did. She never stopped loving Quaid and it was difficult seeing him again, but she was determined to get answers. The two have a lot to fight through if they want to overcome the past. Overall, this was a great book. Its an amazing lifelong friends to great loves story. I loved the alternating pov and the supporting characters. I can't wait to read Gemma and Clive's story in The Past Between Us. I admired them in this book with how they were there for both of their friends and supported them.
HASH(0xa9732294) out of 5 stars I was NOT disappointed! This story pulled me in from the synopsis ... April 6 2016

Well, where do I start with this review.... I've been waiting years to read something by Delisa and when I heard her talking about writing Hendlee and Quaid and the passion in her posts about them had me hooked. I knew this was the one to start out with. And, let me tell ya... I was NOT disappointed!
This story pulled me in from the synopsis on the back of the book! I felt a connection with these characters that I've never felt with any other book. I myself fell in love with someone at a young age and lost touch with them... Well, I can't say much more without giving things away! ;)

But... I cried. Not just a little cry either! I woke my husband up crying at one point, so, bring some tissues! ;) Maybe a glass of wine was consumed while reading this also... I don't remember! ;) All I know is I had this book read within the matter of a few days. It pulled me in and didn't let go!

I am giving this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Just because I did find myself jumping back in the story a few times because it felt at times things were lapsed over. But, all in all. I love the story! Love the characters, love the dynamic of the story.

Delisa, you have a reader in me! ;)

HASH(0xa95995ac) out of 5 stars Delisa Lynn knows how to do romance! March 16 2016

Delisa Lynn knows how to do romance! I was so swept up in this story and what would happen to Hendlee and Quaid. They were such genuine characters, with their own issues and backgrounds, and I felt equally connected to both of them. Lynn did a fantastic job of developing the characters and the plot, creating enough twists and turns to keep me turning page after page. The story was so classic but also so unique: two people in love but can't communicate it are separated by circumstance and fate, and must find their way back to each other against all odds. This was a fun story, but also emotional and tense to read. I enjoyed Lynn's writing style and the authenticity of her characters. I love her Embracing series, but this series is going to be equally good! I can't wait to see where she takes it next!!!
