Product Description

From the Back Cover

  • Produced by (ISC)2, the trusted global source of industry expertise for information security
  • The definitive body of knowledge for candidates for the Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) credential

"To help facilitate the knowledge you need to assure strong information security in the cloud, I'm very pleased to present the first edition of the Official (ISC)2 Guide to the CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional) CBK."
–David Shearer,
CISSP, PMP, Chief Executive Officer, (ISC)2

As powerful as cloud computing is for the organization, understanding its information security risks and mitigation strategies is critical. Securing 'the cloud' requires modified approaches and tools — legacy practices are inadequate. Clearly, it is essential for organizations to utilize information technology professionals who understand how cloud services can be securely implemented and managed within their organization's IT strategy and governance requirements.

The new Official (ISC) Guide to the CCSPSM CBK® is a comprehensive resource providing an in-depth look at the six domains of the CCSP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK). This edition provides a current, detailed guide that is considered one of the best tools for candidates striving to become a CCSP.

Numerous illustrated examples and tables are included to demonstrate concepts, frameworks and real-life scenarios. The book offers step-by-step guidance through each of CCSP's domains, including best practices and techniques used by the world's most experienced practitioners. Developed by (ISC)2, endorsed by the Cloud Security Alliance® (CSA) and compiled and reviewed by cloud security experts across the world, this book brings together a global, thorough perspective. The Official (ISC)2 Guide to the CCSP CBK should be utilized as your fundamental study tool in preparation for the CCSP exam and provides a comprehensive reference that will serve you for years to come.

HASH(0x992b2edc) out of 5 stars Good read, could have been better Dec 5 2015
By Varun Sharma - Published on Amazon.com

4 starts stands for 'I Like it', and I indeed did like the publication... but I am not in love with it.

I think it would have been immensely appreciated had the book authors gone above & beyond the basic facets of security, and also if the authors would have delved deeper in each sections in the current book. I also think that a lot of information is pulled from the internet itself, but nevertheless it's pretty good amalgamation of the information available out there in the market from - analysts, companies, CSPs, government agencies etc.

Assessment/ Feedback:
- lot of redundant data throughout the book.
- easy to read & comprehend, nothing too technical
- good quality hard cover, poor quality paper (no colors)

HASH(0x9938b384) out of 5 stars Good detailed introduction of the CCSP exam Feb. 12 2016
By Chuzpah - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This is a very good introduction to the CCSP material. I'm currently studying for the exam and feel that using this book alone is a mistake. The book references a lot of outside materials from NIST, ISO 27001, and other standards. When studying for the actual exam these supplemental materials are essential. The practice questions at the end of each domain could be expanded as well. For example, domain 4 has only 6 questions while domain 5 has 22! The illustrations were taken out of the CSA material that are found on their website, as a result they are not optimized for a black and white printed book. Overall the material is solid and is a good introduction but be prepared to obtain additional information if you want to pass the actual exam.

HASH(0x9938b528) out of 5 stars Interesting product - quality appears lacking Nov. 19 2015
By Zeus - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
First, I ordered my copy through Barnes & Noble but I wanted to post here as well.
I was surprised (and even apoplectic) when I started going through this hard back book - the quality, well, for the price, I for sure believed it would be better.
Take for example some of the images, I had to have my significant other take a gander to ensure I wasn't seeing things. It seems as if the publisher (or producer) was a lazy undergrad - making copies of a blurred copy and used that for some of the books figures/images.
I stopped counting them after seeing the first two blurred images I came across...
Next, there are no color images/figures anywhere in this book, to add some modicum of flare (or professionalism). If not just to make the reading/studying experience more palatable (if not downright enjoyable) - add some color in the follow on editions, if there are any..
Then there were some of the redundant, unnecessary wording, so far, throughout the book. Maybe a better a copy editor would have cleaned the book up a bit more, might've chopped out a few dozen unnecessary pages.
With that said, as to actual knowledge gained from the book, it seems to do the trick. If you can get past the comments above.
After going through multiple AWS and VMware courses, I figured this compendium of knowledge from the collaborative efforts of ISC2 and CSA would be a better, if not outstanding book. I had believed it would be far better than me cobbling together all the various docs and cloud knowledge.
I was incorrect....
I would love to know what grade level this book was written to (you know, many books have to be written to a certain level to be well received).

But maybe I am a tad bit jaded and expected quite a lot more after being in the InfoSec world for a long time, with double grad degrees (MBA in Tech and MSc in InfoSec) and holding the CISSP-ISSEP...
But, lemme see if I can pass the blinkin' four hour test after going through this 'book' and that online companion ISC2 flashcard set.

HASH(0x9938b8f4) out of 5 stars CCSP book and training March 21 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
If you are preparing to take the CCSP exam solely using this book (First edition), do not throw away your money because unless you have years of Cloud implementation, evaluation, architecture, you are bound to fail even if you take their Online official training. This book is shallow with little alignment with the exam and the CBK. For example, domain 4: Cloud Application Security and domain 1: Architectural Concepts and Design Requirements, deep dive would be helpful.
Also, the Online class does not properly prepare you for the actual exam like other training institutions that not only impart knowledge and exam rigor but also delve deep into what to expect, purpose build questions, anticipating questions, scenarios, situations, graphs to help prep you for the real exam. I was disappointed by the style, method and luck of focus in the core areas of the exam. I took the exam twice and failed. I have two years working on Cloud projects and consider myself pretty skill but I guessed I still need to garner more experience and read extra materials before attempting again.
My warning is that neither rely on this book nor their Online training to hope that you will pass the exam without doing a heavy light work of reading extra materials and research. Adam does a good job but just shy of the actual exam!
