This is a near perfect monochrome laser printer: Wireless, Ethernet, USB network support, Auto-Duplexing (double-sided printing), compact size, nice appearance, plus the quality, economy, reliability, and speed of laser printing. If you're a soho (small office/home office) user, or a family, and don't need colour printouts, it would be pretty hard to find something as feature rich. OS X and Windows compatible, with wi-fi printing from all your home computers directly. Perfect for homes with multiple computers.

I got sick of inkjets along time ago: ink cartridges more expensive than the printer, not being able to print because a single colour cartridge has either gone empty or the nozzle has jamed. Plus the finicky behaviour. Enter the Brother HL-2270DW (the D stands for duplexing, W for wireless) - the printer I've been waiting years for. This replaces an old LaserWriter I had years ago; and I couldn't be more pleased to be using Laser again.

Wireless setup is not obvious, so here's some tips:

1. Plug the printer into your computer via USB or Ethernet.
2. Install the printer drivers from the CD, and add the printer under Print & Fax in system preferences.
(On OS X, just add the Printer via bonjour, and Apple will install the drivers for you)
3. Go to... System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> Options and Supplies. Then click on "Show Printer Webpage"
4. The "website" for the printer will pop up. If it asks for a username and password, its username is "admin" and the password is "access".
5. At the top, click on "Network Configuration" then click on the Wireless tab.
6. Put these settings

a. Communication Mode: Infrastructure Mode
b. Wireless Network Name: (insert your wireless network name here)
c.

What can be said about this Printer?

- It's a very affordable printer.
- Its Set-up was easy and fast, taking only about 10 minutes.
- It's really simple to use, having a single Print button.
- Its Print copy is Strong & Clear, and the printer runs fast and quiet.
- Affordable replacement toner OEM- TN-450 Cartridge.

Well this printer is just great, I bought it for my daughter who was off to university and required a well-priced easy to use printer that didn't require expensive ink every month, and this really fit the bill.
It installed very easy "wireless" which allowed over the air printing from anyone, anywhere even from her iPhone.

She got through her 1st year on the original toner, we just replaced the Cartridge purchasing an OEM-TN-450 from an online reseller at a more than reasonable price, and yield on the TN-450 is approximately 2,600 pages. Compared to our Jet printer. . . OK . . . there is "NO" comparison.
(There is a lower capacity toner cartridge but the TN-450 is the way to go, bigger is better!
Hey I'm getting one for home, forever breaking my addiction to outrageously overpriced liquid ink, it really is a no brainer, wish I'd done it years ago.

I am so pleased with this printer bought about 3-4 weeks ago. After 6 years of struggling with the Lexmark inkjet X3350 and its propriety anti-consumer practices (costing an arm and a leg tiny ink cartridges, poor choices of generic ink that really never worked well) and host of other issues I decided to ditch inkjets for good. This time I spent quite a lot of time doing research online, in stores, and among friends comparing different printers and finally deciding to settle on a laser one, either Okidata B410D or Brother. This particular Brother model offered way more value in every respect except maybe for marginally higher cost of printing per page compared to Okidata.
The installation was very easy and straightforward - following simple and clear instructions in the supplied booklet my printer was ready to go in minutes on both desktop PC (Windows XP SP3) and the Macbook (OS X Tiger 10.4.11). All set to wireless printing. And the pages came out clean & crisp, properly aligned (!), unlike on my jamming inkjet Lexmark X3350, and fast. I had no issues with power or noise or printer heating up too much as other reviewers mentioned. Also, my wireless connection seems to work properly as well. So far so good. I might update this review in six months from now to see how my printer holds up.

This wireless printer replaced a Brother HL-2040, that needed printer cartridge and drum replacement. It was a no-brainer to buy the HL2270. We have been using it for about a month. It installed easily, services both mac and pc devices and performs very well.

I wanted a laser printer similar to my experience with a Samsung model I had in South Korea: quick, business quality prints. Well, the "Brother" is faster and the quality appears to be better. I'm no expert when it comes to printers, but I am picky. This printer gets the job done. I've got it connected to a router and it's shared among all our other computers, both Windows and Macs. Footprint is small enough on the desktop/shelf and after two months of heavy use, I still haven't had any paper jams or issues.

Overall, this printer was satisfying and it is worth spending the money. I am a university student who prints many documents, assignments and class notes. It helps minimize costs of printing and saves paper.

Pros:
-Priced at an affordable price on Amazon.
-Allows duplex printing, hence saving paper.
-Lightweight.
-Wireless feature. Simply convenient. There is no need to attach it to the back of the computer with bundles of wires.
-Very accessible; small enough to be placed almost anywhere at home.
-Nice black color instead of dull grey.

Cons:
-After printing documents, a nauseous smell is released from the vent. More nauseous than the smell released from my older Brother MFC-7440N.
-The wireless configuration took 15 minutes to setup. The best way to configure the printer for wireless use is to temporarily plug it to the computer/laptop and follow
the installation guide from the CD.
-A small back-lit LCD screen would have been convenient.

I would recommend this product to anyone seeking to purchase an affordable printer.
