Good book! A must read if you are in the very difficult situation of a loved one who has had a stroke. It is a VERY hard road, but there is HOPE in Jesus Christ, as He has made a way for my loved one to get better and better! Six months in, and we are still seeing huge progress! NEVER GIVE UP HOPE, NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION LOOKS LIKE. It does get scary, frustrating and SO difficult at times, you will cry a lot, especially, when the one you are taking care of; verbally attacks you for no reason. Just remember, it is the stroke talking not the person, they are just scared they will never get better, BUT THEY DO. Praise God! Hold steadfast to your faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ! If you are not a believer, then seriously consider becoming one. I pray all who are in this trial, that you gain more; faith, love and obedience in the Lord! I have found my faith to be my only place of rest. This book does not reflect Christianity, but it does give a true picture of two people who get through this difficult time. I have to say, having faith is much better! You can rest in Jesus, He will carry you through it all!
Not only for stroke survivors

Because I am a TBI Caregiver scouting out the competition for my upcoming book: The Caregiver's Tale: The True Story of A Woman, Her Husband Who Fell Off the Roof, And Traumatic Brain Injury, I bought this book to read. I had noticed it on a number of lists, and it was not available locally or in our library extension system. The book shocked me several times. "She's writing my book!" I said to my husband, so similar are the situations that Traumatic Brain Injured couples and Stroke couples go through. There are no doubt a lot of similar injuries where caregivers and survivors could glean validation of their responses to medical situations, and some new insight into possible solutions or at least coping mechanisms. I cannot imagine a spousal caregiver who does not see herself in this story. Berenice writes a complete, compelling memoir. Good read. I couldn't put it down.
It's always good to know that you are not the only one to have these experiences. Somehow it makes it more manageable.

I would recommend this book to new stroke survivors and their care givers. It has good helpful information if read in the first weeks after a stroke. My husband is a stroke survivor and it would have been helpful to me if read early on. Somehow, knowing you are not alone in these circumstances is comforting. Also we learn from others experiences.

I found this book to be a wealth of information for the caregiver of a stroke survivor and feeling overwhelmed by the responsibility.
