This was one of the first books I bought for my second daughter. Actually I bought it while she was still in my womb! I decided to get it after seeing a child having the best time reading it with her mother at one of my pre-natal visits. Needless to say my daughter absolutely loves this book. She is now going on 15 months old and picks this book daily to read over and over and over... The pictures are simple, bright and clear. She loves to lift the flaps and see which animal is waiting for her and we both giggle our hearts out as we make the sounds together. A pure joy of a book for both child and adult. The favourite series of my older daughter is Why some cats are rascals.

When I first got this book I was a little disappointed by its size, I was expecting an average size boardbook. It turns out that its great for tiny hands and has quickly become a favorite. This is actually the first book my one-year-old will actually sit still to read from beginning to end...We love it!

My 14 month old daughter loves this simple little book! The "board" format is small and portable yet big enough for her to open the picture flaps.

We received this book as a gift (and I'm giving it as one today) and it has been a lifesaver. We used it dozens of times a day from the time our daughter was about 8 months until now (20 months). She still oves it and we finally had to buy a second copy (she chewed on it a lot). It stands up to abuse really well, but this was too much to ask of any paper-based product. I wish there were more like this one. It's great for your purse or diaper bag, in the stroller etc.

My 9 month old loves this book! He lifts the flaps with no problem and turns the pages as we read. The flaps are sturdy and have stood up to his tugging. He doesn't chew on books, but he likes to toss them around and this one has really held up. We also recommend "Lift a Rock..." by the same author. These are great books!

This is one of our favorites! It is smaller than most board books, but that makes it handy for the diaper bag.
The book has different animals and hiding places on each page, ex: "Who says Peep?" (Lift the hen's wing and see a chick, and the word "chick.") Also another neat feature in the tabs for the hiding places are all different shapes and open in different directions (so it's not the same old lift-the-flap kind of book).
I was worried about the tabs breaking down but they have held up really, really well (even after the book has been thrown in the bathtub a few times!)
My suggestion would be for the parent to lift the tab a little and then let the child open it all the way (the tabs hold down quite well, so to avoid frustration I always start them for my daughter). A definite must for every child!

This book was much beloved, and ripped, by our older son. Now our younger son is in love! Both boys have learned animal names and sounds from this book.

I have now bought four copies of this book. The first one was for my second child, who loved looking at it--but threw it in the toilet, which brought its useful days to a sudden end.

I bought a second copy for my nephew, and a third for my third child. My 15-month old absolutely loves this book--it's his favourite. Probably because it's small enough for a baby to hold, because there are flaps to lip and animal sounds to make, and because the pictures are very cute. He's ripped a couple of the flaps, so I have now bought a fourth copy so that once the first one is destroyed, I can bring out another. I don't mind, as the price is low and he loves it so much.

I wish more of these "Chunky Shape Books" were available--the small size is perfect, not only for a baby to hold but for bringing along in a purse or diaper bag. Highly recommended for baby gifts!
