Germination Rate: 93% Net weight: Less than a gram Days to Maturity: 60 green, or 80 ripe red Average pepper size is 2-1/2"; fruits ripen from dark green to a deep red. A key ingredient in Jamaican "jerk" sauces and traditional Mexican dishes. GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Growing Conditions: Peppers are a hot weather crop. Plant outdoors in spring. Start in pots indoors and transplant outside after last frost. Avoid too much nitrogen, as it inhibits pepper formation in favor of green stems and leaves. Soil: Peppers prefer full, hot sun and rich, well-drained soil with daily watering. Peppers and tomatoes are short lived perennials (usually three years in climates without frost) and will produce fruit each year if not killed by drought or frost. Add phosphorus in soil mixes for fruit development. Keep temperatures above 60-80 degrees F during germination. Planting: Plant the pepper seeds at a depth of about 1/4 inch. Use a heating pad or other heat source such as a light or sunlight. Leave two feet between mature plants. All Nightshades are intermittent germinators and may sprout at different times from identical seed to ensure survival of the species.
