"This is another Must Read author and series." - Amazon review

A top-seller on Amazon's Private Investigator, Crime and Mystery Series lists!

From the author of Readers' Favorite Finalist in mystery, THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN IN THE MOVIES, starring private detective Reed Ferguson...

Out of the Past

Compelled by a dark secret from his past, private investigator Reed Ferguson takes on his most unique case yet: bodyguard for young, spoiled trust-fund baby Stephanie McMahon. As Reed tries to protect her from her father’s enemies, he gets more than he bargained for. Things are not what they seem, no one can be trusted, and the past has a way of coming back to haunt us. And when suspicious deaths begin piling up, Reed knows he might be next. With a twisting plot and film noir fun that readers have come to expect, Out of the Past is Reed Ferguson at his best.

Readers' Favorite 5 Star Review!
This was my first Renée Pawlish book, but I doubt it will be my last. Out of the Past and Reed Ferguson are both good fun, and the tale develops into a thrilling mystery. The characters are believable – if not all exactly likable – and the writing and dialogue are both sharp...I’d definitely recommend this book, and I plan to start reading the series from the beginning.

Praise for the acclaimed first novel in the Reed Ferguson mystery series, THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN IN THE MOVIES:

Kirkus Reviews on this private investigator series:
The promising kickoff to Pawlish's comic mystery series, starring far-from-perfect PI Reed Ferguson. Pawlish earns high marks for plot construction, with twists and turns naturally unfolding as Ferguson, inexperienced but not incapable, feels his way through the case. A good-humored mystery series worth following.

Readers' Favorite on this mystery series:
This is one witty, hilarious private detective story that will keep the reader glued to the pages until the very end.

5 Star Review
There is little doubt that Renée Pawlish is a promising new voice to the comic murder/mystery genre. Quite noticeable...is Pawlish's adept development of the plot coupled with her ability to contrive clear, concise and playful prose with almost perfect pacing.

Ok but I'm very disappointed. This book is not as good or fun a read as are earlier books in this series. The humour seemed to kind of disappear about half way through and then the book just sort of stopped with all sorts of loose ends left dangling. I am not a great lover of these already not very long books that have almost the last quarter taken up by synopsis of other books by this author and a lengthy preview of the next book in the series although maybe if I read that preview I might find out what happened in this book. However I will still read more in this series if I have already acquired them or can get them as freebies or real cheap.

The author starts her story with complaint about cliché and then bombards the reader with “film noir” throughout the book. I felt the déjà-vu of old Mike Hammer novels, fast, blunt and loads of the tough-guy attitude. Not high on my list of what I could recommend to others, mediocre at best, but not boring either. All-in-all and average three stars read.

Very good read and good writing. How Reed managed to stay out of trouble kept me waiting for the next clue to go after. I would read more from this author.

HASH(0x9bb06024) out of 5 stars a car runs down Stephanie's best friend. As the girls are dressed alike Sept. 24 2014

Reed Ferguson, a private investigator takes a case as a bodyguard for a twenty something, spoiled trust-fund baby Stephanie McMahon. Reed is only told that her life is in danger and he tries to protect her from unknown sources. He isn't a body guard, he is a private investigator, but sometimes the past has a way of coming back to haunt us. After a evening out, a car runs down Stephanie's best friend. As the girls are dressed alike, maybe this was not an accident after all. Reed knows he might be next. With very little clues as to what is going on and film noir fun that we all love, Reed Ferguson with the help of his friend Cal and the Goofball brothers gets to the truth. Out of the Past is another Reed Ferguson who done it and I am looking forward to reading more. Renee Pawlish has created a noir detective living in modern day Denver with humor and suspense.

HASH(0x9bb06270) out of 5 stars This was a fun, fast paced neo-noir Oct. 7 2014
By Beyond The Realms - Published on Amazon.com

I was browsing through the free books available through the Kindle store when I stumbled upon this one. After reading back to back true crimes novels, I was ready for something a little more light hearted and this book worked out perfectly. This was a fun, fast paced neo-noir, mystery story that follows detective Reed Ferguson as he is hired to be the bodyguard to the daughter of a very wealthy man with shady connections and an even shadier past that is starting to catch up to him.

Reed is an interesting character that is always aware of the serious danger he is getting himself into with this case, but never lets it get the best of him. Being a big fan of Noir films, I loved how Reed is also big fan of Noir films and oftentimes sites or quotes from them throughout this book. When I got this,I didn't realize that it is part of an ongoing series. I soon found out that this is book 5 in the series but they are stand alone stories, so it was no problem starting with this one. I was able to track down the first book for free as well and I definitely plan on reading it soon. If you like a good mystery, with a witty lead character, humor splashed in at times with satisfying twists and a good ending, then definitely check this one out.

HASH(0x9bb06588) out of 5 stars Detective story Oct. 4 2014

Way too many loopholes for a detective story. The author is hitting all the cliches.
Leaves the readers kind of in the dark at the end with an exciting gun battle, characters shot....we don't know who exactly survives....and the mob is after them....when whoosh!! That's it, GOODBYE. The end.
