Product Description

2007 digitally remastered 30th Anniversary edition of this influential Electronic album. Famed for it's melodic lushed spaced-out Electronica, this is the album that captured keyboard maestro Jarre at his zenith. The lead single 'Oxygene IV' is one the most recognizable Electronic pieces in recent history. The son of famed French film composer Maurice Jarre, Jean-Michel Jarre is a synthesizer wizard, who had a number of instrumental hits, beginning in 1977 with "Oxygene", the success of which propelled him to pop-star status. In the ensuing decades, he has continued releasing albums and mounting enormous stage spectacles around the globe. EMI.

This CD made quite an impression on me as a kid in 1976, and I understand that it impressed the entire planet too. No one has changed the scene of electronic music like Jean-Michel Jarre, and no one can challence him and win. Unfortunately his last CD's have been disappointing, but fortunately for him his older works still makes him the king of electronic music. I own a giant collection of electronic music but it does just not compare to his early works. This records is composed much like classical music by famous composers like Mozart, Bach etc. etc. but of course just not the same kind of music. But he pays just as much attention to every details as the them. A genious!

This guy did Oxygene with a bunch of monophonic synths and a Farfisa (no, really!) organ. What a beautiful example for today's lame brains of electronica who can't even record a 10-seconds loop if they don't have the latest Clavia Nord. Anyway, the music in Oxygene is good, sometimes great, sometimes a tad boring, but overall a very enjoyable album and an amazing work considering the time it was conceived.

This remains a stunning document of electronic music when at it's best. Needs to be listened to be appreciated - that's all. There's no need in the question of artistic integrity because it instantly draws you and funnily enough without trying to sound pretensious - gives you all the air you need! Blends as a whole although tracks 2 and 4 stand out since you might have heard them just about everywhere. Track 4 particularly for me since I remember there was this machine that would give you teddy bears and it would play the lead melody from that song.
I give it 5 stars even if the length of the album ( 39 minutes )wouldn't usually be enough to part such an amount of money on. But this is an exception

Move over Mike Oldfield you have a little move competition in the field of extended instrumentals ...In reality this piece has been around for a very long time. I had mine stolen a very long time ago and I only now have managed to get around to replacing it. The price was such that I simply could not turn it down...Jean Michel Jarre' has never reached the kind of market exposure that Oldfield has while he is just as proficient as Oldfield he simply has not caught the breaks as him. While he did manage to collect the Paris exhibition during the French Bicentennial and he did not disappoint his show was spectacular ...He came up with the idea of using the various commercial buildings around the Arc D' Triumph as a backdrop for a tremendous light show. He bounced a great many laser lights off these buildings creating wonderful effects...now this is rather normal but at the time it had never ever been done before. I gave him full marks for the effects...and for the music, because he played a great many more pieces beside OXYGENE...which is of course his most famous piece...Spigomars...

1976 is the year when he hear something we never heard before , a sound that is gonna change our perception about (modern) music .A new genre is gonna be invented . Jean-Michel Jarre grew up in a family of musicians ,his father composed soundtracks for a lot of movies so it was inevitable that the prodigy kid will be attracted by music. The best album of JMJ !!!

Jarre is very good making music with synthesizers! He's very very good! The first track is quite peaceful and so is the next one, Oxygene 2 makes me ...! The music is so... Oxygene made me feel like I was near the ocean! The third one is quite scary and makes me feel like I was in a Japanese scary film, there's so scary synthics! 4th track is a classic! 5th is a long ballad, not so bad but the worst in this album! 6th is quite peaceful too. Well, this is almost a classic I think. If you like for example Kenny Dorham, you will probably love this one. Jarre makes far more better instrumental tracks than he!

Wow this music is excellent. I feel a part of the wonderful atmosphere and after watching it on tv the other day, i couldnt find anything better to listen to. I cant find a fault with it and as it has no words, it brings a new meaning to everyone and doesnt restrict youre imagination.
Thank you Jean Micheal

The technology makes the music sound dated but the actual song structures, melody, etc. holds up remarkably well.
