Product Description

"There's a wealth of information in this book about mixed media techniques which you could incorporate into textile items, although they are illustrated mostly on paper. There's an excellent section on many different types of printing with striking designs. They include screen, monotype, collograph, relief and sun printing. Every chapter has interesting examples using the different processes. Included are some projects making small books and collages, greeting cards and a calendar. This book would be an excellent resource for City & Guilds students." - Fabrications

"This book is all about fresh ideas using printmaking and mixed media on fabric and paper. All the usual printing techniques are explored and there are lots of fun projects to try your hand at them. I like the monotype placemats and the ideas for sun printing. This is a book that will open the door for you to explore many interesting ideas." -

I have recently developed an interest in printmaking. I wasnt quite sure what to expect when I ordered this book. I just hoped that it lived up to the product description. It did and then some! I was amazed at the scope of printmaking techniques covered in this book. It ranges from simple monoprints, to multiscreen printing (screen printing with multiple colours), relief printing (remember rubbing on pennies?) and sun printing to name a few. It also ventures into somewhat more complex printing techniques including gelatin printing and printing with a termal imaging machine. All of these techniques can be done at home with with relatively simple tools and materials. The author also provides printmaking projects at the end of the book incorporating the various techniques described, including directions for making a simple monotype journal for storing your test prints. This is a must-have book for the paper or fibre artist wanting to explore printmaking.

HASH(0x998905e8) out of 5 stars Fantastic and original printmaking book June 5 2009

Elisha's book is full of wonderful printmaking ideas. One of the things I really like about it is that the techniques she describe seem very simple and easy to do, yet the results are complex and beautiful. Looking at all the projects made me want to just drop everything and get out in the studio. I have tried a couple of the techniques so far and the directions were very easy to follow and the results were terrific. I had a ton of fun and I can't wait to try more of them. If you are interested in using printmaking in your mixed media work, this is an excellent resource.

HASH(0x994d6cb4) out of 5 stars Great Basics Aug. 20 2009

This is a good book to have as an overview of several printmaking techniques that are useful for mixed media printmaking. I especially like the section on collagraph printing, but all sections and techniques were fun to read about, and fun to try. There are a LOT of great examples, in various artistic styles, and I like the fact that the author used other artists' work, not just her own - I think that makes for better imagineer-ing to the benefit of the reader.

HASH(0x99838e28) out of 5 stars A Great Inspiration Book May 16 2010
By K. Kasabian - Published on
Format: Paperback
Though this book does introduce readers to basic concepts and techniques for a variety of printing methods, its real value for me came from the excellent examples by featured artists. It was so exciting to see what was possible with the various techniques (silk screen, collage, monotype, sun prints) that I couldn't wait to get started on my own projects. It doesn't have designs and templates for readers to copy; rather, it encourages people to find their own voice using paper, ink, fabric and a multitude of other affordable materials. Recommended.

This book teaches the idea of printmaking at its most basic. You can do something quick and fun for a greeting card, or follow other instructions with archival materials to make a work of art. Very helpful.

It's ok if you're into screen printing, otherwise I found it to be limited. I would not recommend it, sorry.
