Product Description

Some promises are made to be broken. And others start out that way.

Promise Henderson knows all about being broken. She’s a down-on-her-luck former foster kid who needs to figure out how to get her brother into her custody before the State of Ohio ruins his life forever.

Enter Beckett Fitzgerald. A SEAL with a scarred face, a bad sense of humor and no place to call home. He has another asset though. A big one.

For ten years he’s tried to forget the little girl with snow white hair and an angel's eyes, but when fate throws her into his path once again, his obsession turns possessive and sparks fly.

Only, Promise has a Judas by her side vying for her heart and Beckett needs to reveal the truth before he loses her forever. Debts of the past come calling and Beckett shows her just how far he’s willing to go to protect what is his.

Warning: This full length novel has an over the top possessive alpha hero, a curvy girl and some very saucy, sexy times. Beckett and Promise get their happily ever after, NO cheating but their story will continue. So if you like a romance with a heaping helping of HOT, step inside, it's steamy.

First let me just say that I loved the h/H, and the story had such potential.
But it was just too much. Too much of promising to be honest and trusting with one another but then leaving immediately when faced with doubt. Too many twists and turns. It's like they could not catch a break at all. Oh the drama-it never stopped-from the time they got together it's just one thing after another.
The worst part....ITS A CLIFFHANGER!! I wouldn't have read it if I'd known that, I'm not a fan of them and it can't be considered a HEA because of that.

HASH(0x9f59fba0) out of 5 stars Complex characters who strive to overcome complicating upbringing. March 17 2016
By annmric - Published on
Format: Paperback
Beckett has scars on his face from being burned in a house fire when he was ten. His childhood was difficult after that day. His father blamed him for the loss of his mother. Beckett left his father at sixteen and turned to living in the streets and between foster homes. Beckett became a Navy SEAL at eighteen having served four terms.
While finishing his fourth term Beckett was notified that his father was in a nursing hospital. Beckett still held disappointment towards his father for blaming him for not saving his mother. Beckett struggled with his feelings on what to do about his relationship with his father.
Enters Promise who works at the hospital Mr. Fitzgerald is staying at. Beckett was surprised to see Promise after having not seen her for ten years. Promise does not remember him but Beckett remembers the little girl with the white blond hair and angel like eyes.
It's hard to grasp the mood of this story with the way the information is delivered. The timeline of the characters jumped by about ten years with very little forthcoming information. It was difficult trying to piece together the information when it was held back. Could not connect with the characters or story with my mind trying to process the meaning. It took quite awhile to discover the concept of this story. Dani aimed to build in-depth broken characters, yet I kept feeling like I was searching for a deeper revelation. Dani continued to add layers on top of layer. The characters became too complex to the point that I lost focus. I never understood or felt the connection between Beckett and Promise. Sure I read the graphic raunchy sex they enjoyed with each other, but that did not aid in forming that connection. They tip toed around the connection looking for excuses to interact with one another yet avoid each other for fear of getting too attached.
Dani tried to tackle controversial topics all at once in a round about way: mixed marriage, living with a gay man, disfigurement, abandonment, and the life of a foster kid. Dani tried to tackle too much in this story. I was overwhelmed between their past, the characters, the present, and the lies.
Promise's character was easily manipulated. She was too trusting of men. Promise was willing to give too much of herself to get custody of her brother. It felt like Promise was being taken advantage of. She had been stalked and molded to serve the needs of the monster. Promise had been in and out of ten different foster homes having become vulnerable to men willing to protect, comfort, and take care of her.
Beckett was your alpha hero with a wicked possessive streak and an insatiable libido. The sex was graphic and raunchy. Beckett was protective, possessive, and dominate. Beckett wanted Promise and he claimed her.
Once I finally reached the end the storyline fell into place and the burden of all the secrets were revealed and my focus was put in place. The story had many layers and once everything unfolded I appreciated the concept. I wish the delivery had not been so layered.

HASH(0x9f59fbf4) out of 5 stars Promise is a great Complex Romantic Read where Love Overcomes Tragedy March 18 2016
By April R Symes - Published on
Format: Paperback
This story will capture you and will make you gulp back at times tears because it is emotional. In the story we see that Beckett, when younger, was scarred and disfigured during a house fire that killed his mother and sister . His father ended up blaming him and his life wasn’t the best when he was younger and he ends up in foster care where he sees a little girl with the prettiest blonde hair and eyes like opals and for some reason she stays with him . The story moves forward years ahead and Beckett is in the military and he has to come home because his father is in a nursing hospital. He goes to see him and guess who he runs into? The little girl with hair so white and eyes like opals.
Her name is Promise and she is a nurse there where his father is staying. She doesn’t remember Beckett but sure remembers her. We learn that Promise is trying to gain custody of her brother and she has had a very hard life. There is such pain in her life and she has been taken advantage of. Beckett is entranced by her and the chemistry between them is thru the roof. All I can say is, WOW. I know that if I haunted someone for that long-the sex is how, earthy and full of spice. Beckett wanted Promise and he was bound and determined to keep her. There was angst and there was a lot of twists and turns between the MC regarding their past and involving their present. In the end, I loved how the story wrapped up. All the secrets were out involving Beckett and Promise ; this is one story which the layers that involved these characters at times did drive me nuts but in a good way. I really liked this story and cannot wait to see what this author writes next.

My rating: 5.0 stars *****

HASH(0x9f5a2048) out of 5 stars Promising tale - but beware the cliffhanger! April 3 2016

I started reading this one without any great expectations, but was pleasantly surprised by the author's ability to get me to care about the two main protagonists, Beckett and Promise. She has developed each character well and introduced enough romantic tension to make their connection believable, even if it's based on some pretty convenient coincidences and leaps of faith.

There's plenty of steam and Beckett proves to be a very alpha male, without subjugating Promise's own grit and determination to survive. I'm not sure that someone who has endured everything Promise has would be quite so willing to play his dominant games (nothing too risque, mind you), but I guess that's the point where you have to suspend reality for a bit of down and dirty romance. And Beckett does deliver the goods, albeit with a touch of obsessive devotion that puts a little twisted in with his attempts at sweet.

It should be noted that this story does end in a 'Happy For Now' moment that is quickly curtailed by a twist and cliffhanger. You have been warned!

HASH(0x9f5a23f0) out of 5 stars atypical hero & heroine March 31 2016
By Justirishgirl - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I liked quite a few things about this story. The hero and the heroine were atypical in both looks and characteristics. Both were scared emotionally and the hero Beckett physically as well. Personality wise, he was urber protective, possessive and jealous alpha male, which I loved. Because he was like that, I recommended the story on an Amazon reading thread dedicated to heroes that share those qualities.

A seal, Beckett took care of people even if they treated him poorly. He had a difficult childhood but managed to come through it and be a good person. Promise too had a difficult childhood. While it had a greater impact on her then Beckett she too is a good person who takes care of others. However, unlike Beckett, she let it negatively impact her personal life. I loved how Beckett would not take no for an answer, dragging her into the land of living. The smex scenes were hot but I was surprised by the BSDM. I am not a fan of BSDM but could handle what was in this book because it was light.

The thing that I did not like about this story is it turned Jerry Springer episode half way through it. I will not expand on that as to not give spoilers other than to say off the wall things happen, especially towards the end of the book and then out if nowhere there is a cliffhanger. I thought that the story should have ended a few pages prior and I would have been happy as Beckett and Promise's relationship was good when the book ended. The cliffhanger had to do with secondary characters. I liked the story enough that I bought it as opposed to just reading it as a KU story. With that said, I do not know if I will read the next book in the series as I am afraid that the Beckett and Promise's relationship will take a nose dive and I don't want that.
