Such a cute book!

Lulupop is a girl, no doubt!

Isn’t always when you want them to do something that kids won’t; but when you don’t want them to do something, they do it willingly?

Lulupop did exactly that!

All week, Lulupop’s mom wanted her to wear pants – all for various reasons that we as parents know are best for our kids, but as a typical child, Lulupop wasn’t having it. She wanted to wear a dress and didn’t care (or remember) the natural consequences of not listening to her mom.

Every day, Lulupop defies her mom and every day, there is a natural consequence for her decision.

Towards the end when mom finally concedes to Lulupop, it is then that Lulupop doesn’t want to do as she has done the entire book! Yet, again, she defies her mom!

Only this time, Lulupop appears to have learned from the consequences and makes a compromise.

The artist, Alexandre Rouillard, does an excellent job with the illustrations.

The artwork is super cute and eye catching.

I couldn’t find a recommended age for this book, but as a parent; I would suggest preschool through maybe 3rd or 4th grade. It is definitely a book that preschoolers will enjoy being read to them with pictures to keep them interested and an easy enough book for the little bit older kids!

HASH(0xa4134d14) out of 5 stars Cute Picture Book With a Good Message for Girls Feb. 24 2015

Before I was a blogger and vintage bookseller, I taught 3 and 4 year olds at a play-based preschool. Each year there were always a couple of little girls who wanted to wear their prettiest dresses to school. I always reminded parents that we would be fingerpainting, going to the playground, decorating cookies, planting flower seeds - and pants were practical for active play. I wish that Pants! No Chance! had been in my classroom library. It would have been a great read aloud to share.

Pants! No Chance! is a charming picture book for young children. Lulupop wants to wear a dress to school every day, although her mother suggests that pants might be more appropriate. Because of this, Lulupop finds riding a bike difficult, cannot participate in gym, and scrapes her knees on the playground. Young readers will find out how she decides that it might not be such a bad idea to wear pants to school.

The storytelling in this book is fun and lively. A week in Lulupop's school life moves is presented with details about each day. The drama and school adventures will make for a great read aloud at home or in a classroom.

The illustrations by Alexandre Rouillard are charming. The colors are bright and vivid, and the pictures help advance the story.

I would recommend this book for preschool children or early readers (kindergarten to first grade). It would be a fun book to read at home, but also a nice addition to a school library.

HASH(0xa3fdcabc) out of 5 stars An entertaining lesson in Mother Knows Best Feb. 23 2015
By Katherine Scott Jones - Published on Amazon.com

(as reviewed by my 5th-grade daughter) I liked this book, and I think kids will like it too.

The beginning of the story captured my interest and made me want to keep reading. I liked Lulupop’s stubbornness but that she is in the end willing to learn from her mistakes.

There is a pattern in the writing–the same conversation every morning–which might be good for little kids, but it might also get a little repetitive. There is one other awkward part. At the beginning of each new day, there’s a line at the start that tells the day and what pants Lulupop’s mom wants her to wear. (For example: Monday–jeans.) I didn’t think this was necessary. It interrupted the flow of the story. If I was reading this to my Buddy Reader, I’d skip over this part.

But otherwise, the story was good. I like how there is a different thing that happens to Lulupop every day, and how in the end she learns her lesson and how to solve her problem.

The illustrations are really good. I like the details and the colors, how the watercolors give the illustrations a softer look, not harsh, which would probably be good for kids.

HASH(0xa3e72918) out of 5 stars Adorable children's book with a great message for kids & parents alike! Feb. 24 2015
By Nora2983 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Pants! No Chance! by Susan Lanyi is a positively adorable children's book with beautiful illustrations, and a story that many parents, especially those with little girls at home, can relate to. Example: my oldest bonus daughter went through a period of time where pants (leggings, jeans) were totally off limits, just like the little girl in the book. If it didn't offer her a good twirl when she spun in circles, she was not interested. Fortunately those days are long since past with my eldest but the youngest bonus daughter is all about skirts and no pants. I can't wait to share this book with them because maybe, just maybe they will understand why sometimes I suggest they wear pants instead of skirts. And maybe, just maybe, these fashion-forward little girls will decide to wear pants (or leggings and skirts) once they have had a few mishaps in their skirts.

This sweet story is perfect for preschoolers, early readers and those siblings who are eager to read to their younger brother or sister. Hopefully this story makes its way to the shelves of preschools, school & public libraries, and the shelves of many kindergarten teachers because I think it's just the cutest!

HASH(0xa452aae0) out of 5 stars Lulupop is a delight and the illustrations fill the pages Feb. 25 2015

Each morning, no matter what outfit her mother suggests she wear, Lulupop stubbornly insists on wearing a dress. It’s always a dress, even when it causes problems or she misses out on some fun stuff.

The pictures are delightful and fill the pages. You’ll see the consequences of Lulupop’s insistence upon wearing a dress in colorful, fun ways.

When her mother finally throws in the towel, Lulupop surprises her and comes up with her own solution. Kids are funny like that.

I see where parents can learn from this. Lulupop is showing her personality. Be patient. Let your child express themselves. My son used to always wear a stocking cap and matching cloth gloves. I have so many pictures of him with toese items on. It makes me smile now, but I remember the frustration when trying to get him to take them off.

Lulupop finally learned yet still kind of had her own way.

A delightful picture book to read aloud with your child. Sure to make you giggle.

I received this book for my honest review.
