About the Author
Christopher G. Nuttall has been planning science-fiction books since he learned to read. Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, he studied history, which inspired him to imagine new worlds and create an alternate-history website. Those imaginings provided a solid base for storytelling and eventually led him to write novels. He’s published more than thirty novels and one novella through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, including the bestselling Ark Royal series. He has also published the Royal Sorceress series, the Bookworm series, A Life Less Ordinary, and Sufficiently Advanced Technology with Elsewhen Press, as well as the Schooled in Magic series through Twilight Times Books. He resides in Edinburgh with his partner, muse, and critic, Aisha. Visit his blog at www.chrishanger.wordpress.com and his website at www.chrishanger.net.--This text refers to the mp3_cd edition.

Captain Alice Campbell currently the only survivor of exposure to the virus is deployed with the fleet, not fully trusted (even by herself) her insights may just give them an edge and indeed by using this character as a focal point Christopher maintains his strong character based writing while not denying the readers a decent amount of action and suspense between the stars. Another entertaining addition to the Ark Royal series and well worth picking up the first novel in the series and seeing if like me you get hooked.
Christopher Nuttall is no Shakespeare, and I can barely abide the Audible narrator’s style. Yet I’ve read and listed to probably 10 of his 14 books and loved them all. This is pulp fiction, roman de gare, and it’s wonderful stuff.
Invincible, Para Bellum and Right of the Line for a trilogy. They tell the story of a war against a new type of enemy. The scenario is hard to outline without giving a spoiler, so I’ll refer you to the books’ blurbs. I can say that this is the right sci-fi to read in current times…
The main protagonist is the aristocrat Captain Sir Stephen Shields, in charge of the assault carrier Invincible. Over the course of the trilogy, he comes to be in charge of a small fleet. There is a substantial and successful sub-plot which centres on the carrier’s fighter pilots.
Since Nuttall retains the national structures of politics, it’s inevitable that his views on politics and culture figure heavily. Here, it turns out that he is a small-c, wet and one one-nation, conservative. There is a lot of stiff upper lip and lairy Americans and grim Russians, but also Muslim women starfighters defending Britain. This makes the book rather unique and valuable in speculative fiction, where the right-inclined authors are so often extreme and even racist (see NK Jemisin’s Hugo acceptance speech). I’ll can’t wait for the next book from this independent author.
TL/DR: If you like the Ark Royal series, then this is the type of Ark Royal that you'll like.
