This is truly a moving and eloquent set of essays representing the perspective too often relegated to the periphery of the globalization debate.

HASH(0x95b26288) out of 5 stars Best book available on this subject. July 16 2014
By Janet L. Rowan - Published on
Format: Paperback
One of the best books written to date regarding the loss of sustainability throughout the world of not only indigenous people's lives, but all who attempt to live a sustainable life. I'm impressed by the eye-opening depth of this book. My son just returned from Manila at the same time I was reading the section about Manila in this book. It goes into detail about the rape, pillage, and plunder attitude of those who want to keep building their empires with no regard to the people who are already living there. Now these people have no environment left in which to sustain themselves. They live in poverty and the slums surround the "castle walls". The country is now run by the military who must protect the "castle dwellers." Read this book if you want to gain a better understanding of how wide spread this situation is. Awareness is the key to changing anything that is truly detrimental to all of us.
