I'm not a fighter.
I was born into a fighting family. As the middle child, I was overlooked in favor of my older brother.
He took the negative attention, too. In comparison, there's nothing special about me.
I’m not as big as Cobra. I’m not as strong as Cobra. He's the alpha.
I'm a beta.
The second son.
The lesser one.
The one never encouraged to fight, never encouraged to do anything, but stay out of my father’s way.

I'm not a lover either - but I wished to be – that’s why I needed her.
I met a girl in the pouring rain.
Sounds cliché, but it's true. It changed everything.
Because of love, I learned to fight.

Betas come second, but in this fight, my story is first.

About the Author

L.B. Dunbar loves the original legend of King Arthur. Inspired by this classic tale, she pulled over to the side of the road to take notes when it hit her that if King Arthur lived today, he'd be a rock star. A lover of fairy tales, myths, legends, and anything with happily ever after, she loves to read and write contemporary romance. Her Legendary Rock Stars series is complete with the final tale: The Trials of Guinevere DeGrance, but the story begins with The Legend of Arturo King. She also wrote The Sensations Collection, which includes five stand alones based on the five senses in a small town setting near Lake Michigan. Raised on one side of that lake, she grew up in Michigan, but now lives on the other side, in Chicago. Mother to four, wife to the one and only, and teacher to hundreds of former students, she looks forward to sharing more stories in the future.

HASH(0x9eff7294) out of 5 stars A Good Read Jan. 25 2016
By DonnaPhills59pa/ Spreading The Word with Denise& Donna - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Abel was the weaker of the two brothers.
His brother, Cain was a fighter and praised all the time by their father.
Their father was a fighter in his younger days but not as famous as Cain, Cobra.
Abel was the smart one of the family but he was secretly training to fight in the ring.
Despite his smaller stature he was very fast on his feet.
Elma Montgomery was also a student at the same school as Abel.
She was in the popular group. Abel adored her from afar.
Her brother Montana was killed in a fight and now Elma
and her mother are living on what Elma can earn.
Elma finds out her money wasn't paid for the semester.
She knows her mom took the money to drink on.
Her mother hasn't been the same since her brother died.
Abel overhears her conversation with the office and he offers to pay for her.
She wants to know what he wants in return.
He tells her he needs lessons on how to get girls to notice him.
Elma knows she can do that so she agrees.
Sometimes what we wish for and what we get our not what we want after all.
This is a nice story and it was very interesting and it had a few suprises along the way.
This book does contain profanity and sex scenes so it isn't for everyone.

HASH(0x9eff72e8) out of 5 stars New from LB Dunbar Jan. 27 2016

It’s known that I’m not a huge fan of the “fighter” books and I seriously thought twice about requesting this one. The author swayed me; I have always enjoyed LB Dunbar’s books so I thought why not? I’m glad I did. This feels different from her usual style and not in a bad way at all. Initially I enjoyed the book, perhaps the first half I found less enticing than the second half. More so for that reason of it being a book about a fighter than anything else. I got myself over that little hump though and by the time I was getting to about 50ish% I was utterly dragged into the storyline and really enjoyed it to the very end.
I found Beta/Abel a character that I didn’t immediately jump on board with; rather I had a slow appreciation for his character that ultimately ended with me really liking him. He had some flaws of course; I mean what main character doesn’t? But they are easy to get over. He has this kind of slow reveal I think and it’s endearing to watch it unravel. The reasoning behind it is all too familiar and the fighter name he has definitely suited his character. Now I found our other main character, Elma, a little harder to warm too. Whilst I understood her reasoning behind many of her actions it didn’t mean that I liked them.
I absolutely loved the underlying story of the Cane and Abel persuasion. Honestly I think this is why I fall for LB Dunbar’s work. There is so much more going on than the surface story. She can take something historic and turn it into something that is extremely current and relevant in this day and age. Oh how she does it so very well. Subject matter is quite heavy and there could be a trigger or two in here but LB offset all that drama with some delicious little bits of intimacy.
Written extremely well (I would expect nothing less from this author to be honest) but because I floundered with the first bit of the book I need to award this a very decent 4 star rating. It wasn’t quite up there with my 5’s unfortunately. I am intrigued to read about Cane as he features quite heavily in this first book. I’d like to see the man melt a little. Highly recommended.
*NOTE - I have notes in the ebook but can’t access on my phone so will add later)

I finished this book yesterday.....and had to have some time to really process or digest what I had just read.

Like the Synopsis reads:

Betas come second, but in this fight, my story is first

That girl is Elma, and if I am being honest, she did not deserve Abel. Elma has a hidden agenda. She is out to avenge her brother's death. Her brother who, fought Abel's brother Cain, in a fight he was not medically cleared for. Cain did not kill her brother, but Elma is basically blind. So, in a way, she "appears" to be whoring herself out to all these underground fighters in an effort to get someone who would go into the ring with Cain......

Abel has some issues, basically his dad treated him like crap his entire life and even as an adult. Abel thinks he is nothing, no one wants him, no one see's him. I am not sure if he really thought he could not get a girl without help, because honestly, I don't think he had any problems when it came to Elma or he was just trying to find a way to force the issue with Elma

Things I liked about this book.....Abel.

Things I did not like...his family kinda sucked, I am still not sure I like his brother. I hate his father, and even though Elma and Abel end up together, I am not satisfied that their relationship is real. I did not like all the back and forth between the two.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Title: Paradise Fought: Abel
Series: Paradise #1
Author: L.B. Dunbar
Genre: Contemporary New Adult Romance/MMA
Release Date: January 25, 2016

Paradise Fought: Abel is the 1st book in the paradise series. I really liked this book it was very interesting; and captivated my attention right from the start and held on tight until the very end. I liked how the story flowed and how it keeps you reading to find out what is going to happen next. There was a little bit of violence in this story due to the book is about an MMA fighter named Abel. I found that the POV between the characters it was entertaining and enjoyable. However, this was probably one of the most emotional books I have ever read. I wish I could tell you it was an easy love story for these two, but I’d be lying. Their love story was a bit messy at times. It wasn’t perfect. Here is a little bit about the characters. Abel is an MMA fighter and has to work harder for everything in his life. His father appears to despise him and favor his older brother, Cain. His brother has protected him from his father's wrath for years, but Abel wants to change his life. Seeking to make his way in the fight world, he starts fighting in an underground ring in college. He also wants to make his way into the world of women and their pleasures. Little does he know that when Elma reappears in his life, many things will change. They sensually dance around each other as they spar to gain the upper hand in their budding relationship. L.B. Dunbar has another hit on her hands with this one! I would definitely recommend this book I loved every minute of this book.

I gave this book 5 stars due to it was so hot and steamy and would defiantly recommend this book to all my friends who read the same types of books I do. I am addicted to reading and am glad I had a chance to read this book.

This is an author that no matter what she writes, I will read it without even checking out the blurb. It's no secret that I absolutely LOVE her Legendary Rock Star series, but I can't lie, her new Paradise series is shaping up to be just as amazing. She's been on my list of authors trying to kill me since the beginning, and that hasn't changed with Abel at all. It's a highly original MMA story to me.

Abel is the second son of an Irish fighter. He's always been overlooked when it comes to his older brother Cain, even the negative attention. He feels like there's nothing special about him, so he tends to hide his true self, but in his spare time, he's training to be a fighter, and fights in an underground fighting system. Elma has been trying to take care of her alcoholic mother after her brother was killed in a fight. She works her butt off to pay for her college, and all of their bills but she but she's driven to avenge her brother. When Abel helps her out of the blue, she's wary of what he wants. He just wants her but tells her that he needs her help to learn how to date. Will she be able to let go of the obsession to avenge her brother for a chance at something awesome?

WOW WOW WOW! I devoured this book in one sitting. My heart felt like it was ripped out and stomped on before it was shoved back in painfully. The character development is perfect, with the layers of what have driven Abel and Elma to become who they are, unraveling slowly and at times, messily. A fast paced, emotional, and well written story line flows effortlessly. L.B. Dunbar is highly talented and brilliant at throwing in twists and turns from left field, with some being explained, and others that have to wait until the next book making her a diabolical genius trying to kill me. Sizzlin' sparks flew out of my kindle, leading to SMOKIN' HOT sexy scene goodness that I will never get enough of. The way the book ended is awesome, and yet, left me with more questions that make me want to call her bad names. The next book can't come quickly enough for me, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY and HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
