Product Description

Product Description

Ex-CIA analyst, Kurt Vetter is no stranger to tragedy and loss.  Swearing off any connections to a life he once lead, he retreats to South America--on a self-imposed exile.  But when he receives a mysterious package of encrypted files from his dead brother, he's drawn back into a dangerous world of treason and espionage--a world he swore he'd left behind for good.

It's up to Kurt to uncover the message that his brother was desperate to convey--a message that could be the difference between life and death.  When the files lead him across the world, he encounters Amanda Carter, an enigmatic woman linked directly to his brother, who just might have the information he needs to decipher what's hidden inside the files.  Together, they uncover a plot far bigger than anything he ever anticipated--a rogue CIA mission to detonate a nuclear bomb.

But with time running out and his brother's assassins closing in, Amanda and Kurt must face this alone. With millions of innocent lives at stake, they race against the clock to stop the attack.  If they fail, the results could be explosive.

HASH(0x9a91560c) out of 5 stars Is there a better word than 'wow'? Jan. 24 2011

In The Patriot Paradox, author William Esmont takes us on a roaring-fast adventure across five countries as Kurt Vetter tries to understand his brother's death and then stop a rogue CIA element from detonating a nuclear weapon in Moscow.

Despite the break-neck pace, Esmont's story is highly detailed and the characters (major and minor) are very well-developed. There's lots of promising material for the sequel that can't be published soon enough!

HASH(0x9a6774ec) out of 5 stars need to find out what happens Nov. 29 2010

I enjoyed this book, the depth of the main characters pain from the loss of his family and subsequent brother was very well relayed. The plot grew quickly and sucked me in. The more frustrating part was the cliff hanger at the end... not used to that, used to having everything tied up at the end.

Not sure about the time lines with international flights and abililty to be realistic in our post 911 socitey but still entertaining! Enjoyed the idea of goverment stepping outside its bounds and doing things it "should not".

Suggestion would have been more cloak and dagger ala Jason Bourne style interactions between protagonists.

Looking forward for the next installment and may try Self Arrest to seen the first offering from this new HOT author

HASH(0x9a750d08) out of 5 stars Bare bones of a story and poor writing May 18 2011
By Vinlo - Published on

I am amazed and puzzled that so many people have rated this so highly. The plot sounded fine but what we got in terms of the actual story was the bare bones. It seemed more like a sketch which had been roughed up and then sent to the publisher. Maybe they printed that instead of the actual finished product. As a result the story flies too fast and seems thin, jumps are made with no explanation and there is a host of inconsistencies which leave you feeling you have wasted your time buying and reading this book.
The quality of the writing is extremely poor and filled with cliches drawn from other books of the same genre.

HASH(0x9a8317bc) out of 5 stars Okay only as a bargain bin book April 2 2011
By Emma Andrus - Published on

To be perfectly honest, I was impressed by the plot and idea of this book, but not the actual writing - so much so that I did not finish it. This strikes me as an effort by a relatively inexperienced writer at the beginning of his career. The editing was poor and not nearly of the level I am accustomed to finding on Amazon. If I had paid full-price, I would have felt cheated. But since I found it in the bargain bin (.99), I feel the least I can do is give it three stars.

HASH(0x9a80463c) out of 5 stars Would rather watch paint dry! June 21 2011

What a total waste of time. This book takes "suspension of dis-belief" to new levels. The tired plot and one dimensional wooden characters have been done to death. Chechen terrorists and nuclear bombs oh my! How anyone could rank this book higher than one star is beyond me. Actually one star is being kind.
