Andrea Winters was brought up in the suburbs of Auckland, New Zealand and is part of a small family. Her being the only child. Growing up she had always been curious about the many different kinds of animals, and the discovery of new things. This fascinated her so much that now she has family of her own, she has decided to write books about these topics for kids that she hopes will be educational, and fun to read.

The books that she has released include a number of non-fiction books on Penguins, Cheetahs, Whales & even a book about the Titanic. She is currently in the process of adding to this collection of kids books to help keep kids entertained.

I never realised that there were so many different types of penguins. The book begins with an overall look at penguins before focusing on the 17 known species. This is a really interesting book that will take the reader all over the world. The book is supported by a wealth of fantastic pictures of penguins which really brings the book to life. A well written book and I highly recommend it.

I hate to downgrade children's books because many learners learn from different approaches. However, I cannot remain silent about the errors I see. The photos were too small and were not labeled. The pages were not formatted correctly, and the reader wasn't sure which photo went with what text. The info was great (but she needs to explain what 'krill' is), but the format and editing were not.

I struggled to decide how to rate this book. There is a plethora of information about penguins and children can use this book as reference for learning about the many species of penguins, their habitats, lifestyles, distinguishing characteristics, diet, and predators. The colorful photographs are a delight to study. However, the formatting of the kindle edition is atrocious, with dropped letters, misplaced punctuation marks, and sentence fragments. I enjoyed learning about penguins and looking at the photos, but the text is in need of serious editing and formatting.

Parents and teachers will find the information in this book useful and enjoyable, if they point out to young readers that these issues need to be corrected. Content is appropriate for children in primary and intermediate grades.

Although the science seems accurate and the pictures are pleasant, the writing is atrocious! How does somebody create a book and get it published (on paper or electronically) without any proofreading?! Truly, I am baffled by this. I love penguins, and I love supporting my kids' interest in science and geography, but I am not a fan of subpar resources. Spend a little time on the Internet and with Google Images and you can have an enjoyable, informative time with your kiddos discovering information about penguins WITHOUT hiccuping through horrid grammar. Although, I guess you could use this as not only a science resource but also an opportunity to practice writing skills. Each time you encounter a mistake, you could prompt your child, "What is the author trying to say here? How SHOULD she have written those two sentences?" Puhlease. Ms. Winters might know her penguins but she needs a friend with a red pen.
