Love this series but this one has left me confused. I was excited for Jaces p.o.v but it didn't make sense. It was insightful but there was no reasoning for his crappy attitude towards Pepper. I get the reasoning I hope it comes to a good finish in the next one. Pepper deserves better.
I love this series. This author is so talented. Pepper is such a likeable heroine. Your heart breaks alongside Pepper's in this book and I actually felt like crying for Jace. He is such a complicated character but you still want him to be that boy who Pepper has loved her whole life. This series captures all the emotion and excitement of Pepper becoming a young adult- all that promise of tomorrow but the bittersweet reality that life is always changing. Can't wait for the final book!
This book. I'm actually kicking myself for never having reviewed this one. I absolutely love this series, though I can't remember anymore how I stumbled upon it. I do remember how much I pestered this poor author for more. Shoot, if she were to tell me today she was writing more I would scream with glee. Okay, phew. Point is, I love the story of Pepper and Jace, although this book was a little hard to get through because of all the s*** these two are put through.
Pepper starts her freshman year at college, already making friends with her teammates and having fun. Things with Jace are going great, although he lives off campus it is within walking distance. It's going to be a great year, right?
Ehhhh, maybe not. Like I've stated in other reviews it wouldn't be a good story line with out drama and oh boy there is a lot of that to be had. Pepper needs to grow up, a lot. Jace has a lot to learn about him self. They say you can't kill love, but Ali Dean does know how to wound us pretty badly.
I remember when I finished this book it was like one or two in the morning and all I wanted to do was cry, my heart was crushed, Ali Dean stated the length of time we had to wait for the next book and it was just too long for me. I needed to know what my "friends" so to speak. were up to. I needed to make sure things were going to be okay. It wasn't good enough to know that there would be another book.
If you can't already tell by the way I'm talking, Pepper and Jace hit a rough patch in their relationship and Jace himself goes through a really hard time with his family. I can't go into too much detail, I wont spoil it for you. I do have a bit of advice, don't read this one with out having the next one pre downloaded and keep chocolate and tissues close by. Your heart will be ripped out, but don't worry, you don't have to wait for the next one like I did.

Pepper finally goes to college. But there's a sudden change in this book. Something goes wrong which causes Jace to push away Pepper. But Pepper sucks it up, ignores Jace and focuses on her running. She also has to contend with the college life, partying and drinking. She in a way had to become numb to be solely focused on running. She also has to deal with a teammate who might have an eating disorder. She struggles to figure out when it's the right time to get her help, when it is not? Even when Jace comes back and apologies, Pepper still walks away. She had enough. So where does this leave them? So many questions, not enough answers.
In a way, I was glad that Pepper finally got her balls to walk away. Jace has to learn that there's a line where even the best person have had enough. But I was worried when she became numb and too focused on running. She wasn't dealing with her own emotions and letting herself fall apart. I was hoping that she wouldn't go down a road that would destroy her. Too easily people turn to alcohol and drugs to ease the pain. But she's a tough nut and uses running instead. But still... It was quite interesting to hear from Jace's point of view and you do get to understand him a bit better. This book did not give a perfect ending, but I'm sure it will make more sense in Book 5.
At this point, we should start to be wondering if Pepper should move on for good, leave Jace behind? I'm really curious how she gets through this and see how she grows in the next book. Sometimes it's about the journey, not the end goal. With Pepper, it's all about the journey, the mountains and the valleys. The highs and lows. And how you get through it all, better than ever.
