It was 50 years ago when The Beatles' John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr astonished and delighted the world, ushering in the Summer of Love with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, a groundbreaking masterwork that became popular music's most universallybracclaimed album. The album is newly mixed by Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell in stereo, sourced directly from the four-track masters at Abbey Road Studios in London, and guided by the original, Beatles-preferred mono mix produced by his father, George Martin.brbrThis expanded 180-gram 2LP vinyl gatefold package features the new stereo album mix on the first LP and adds a second LP with previously unreleased alternate takes for each of the album's 13 songs, newly mixed in stereo and sequenced in the same order as the album.

The result is that the version of SPLHCB on the 1999 Yellow Submarine Songtrack CD, with the bass, drums and vocals right down the middle, actually sounds better than the 2017 remix! Also, the version of ADITL on the Beatles Love CD, which Giles made, sounds better than the new mix, even though it was created over 10 years ago. It doesn't detract from the overall improvement of the CD, but it is something I noticed right away. Comments, anyone?
Update 13/7/17: I have listened to the remixed CD on a better sound system. I am going to downgrade my score to 80%. The bass is on the right side of the mix in almost every song! Compare LITSWD to the 1999 Yellow Submarine Songtrack version.
If Giles intended to pay homage to the mono CD, he blew it!
I found the anniversary version of Sgt. Pepper provided a distinct, sharp adn cleaner sound particlarly the percusion and bass lines from all racks. The orchestration seems to have stood out too from the original version done on vinyl from 1967.
An excellent job!
