This book, as the title clearly indicates, is filled with interpretations of English Cottage style - whether in an urban, seaside or rural setting. The author presents 18 buildings, each 100 years or more old, profiles the owner and creative force behind each, and, relates the reclaiming, restoring and recycling efforts taken to make the cottages habitable. The chapters are organized to reflect what the author calls a variety of "moods": romance/kitsch, restraint/simplicity, character and elegance. The components of each are helpfully summarized at the end of the respective chapters. Beautiful photographs illustrate homes I've not seen in other books or magazines. Decorative and functional furnishings combine fine antiques, found objects and fond family pieces. Each cottage reflects individuality and creativity most often avoiding the sterotypical. I enjoy re-reading 'Perfect English Cottage' and would love to spend a month-long holiday in any of the cottages!

Although I have read another review , which had negative elements to it, I am at a loss as to why.
A TRUE English interior is not perfect, nor set-up and "staged" like those seen in interior design magazines. It evolves over time, incorporting different elements and eras.
If you are looking for a book where all is PERFECT in a home, where everything matches, and where there isn't a cushion out of place...move on.
If you are looking for true English style, then look no further, you have found a most enjoyable read and a feast for the eyes!!
I have another of this authors books: "Perfect English", and she never fails to provide a most beautiful book.
Only downside, it was printed in China, something (and the only thing) which I find a negative.

This is another decorating book I am glad to own. A nice size with plenty of clear large colorful pictures. The homes pictured inside are a mix of different styles and do not appear overly staged like many magazine homes do. While not every home is to my taste there are a good many that are, making this an enjoyable read for myself and probably many others. I highly recommend this book!

I just received this book and I am more than disappointed. It is just the usual Cottage type book which you
have seen already since years. Lots of untidy interiors of cottages in England and which is not really the
true English style you see in magazines like "Country Homes an Interiors". All you see in this book is sloppy
and shabby interiors you would not want to live in. I don't think she is doing the "English look" a favour in
showing such homes. The English cottages I know are completely different and much much nicer and romantic.
Believe me. Waste of money!!!!
