Product Description

A hot contemporary baseball romance by bestselling author Mindy Klasky.

Reigning beauty queen Samantha Winger is launching her pet project, a music program for kids. All she has to do is follow the pageant's rules—no smoking, drinking, or "cavorting" in public.

That's fine, until DJ Thomas—God's gift to baseball—throws her a wild pitch. He slams her in an interview, and the video goes viral. Sam's no shrinking violet. She parlays DJ's apology into a national TV appearance—and a very unexpected, very public kiss.

Soon, paparazzi catch the couple in a steamy make-out session, and Sam's music program is on the block. The blazing hot relationship is threatened even more when DJ's son begs to trade in Little League for music class.

Can Sam and DJ sizzle past the sour notes and find their perfect pitch?

Quick but very good read. First time reading this author & I have to say I enjoyed the book a lot. The quick love story of DJ & Samantha is funny, cute & heart wrenching with a lot of heat. DJ is a pitcher in the major leagues trying to make a name for himself in the shadow of his Hall of Fame pitcher father, while trying to raise his own 10 yr old son " Samantha is the reigning Miss Summer Fair Queen who happens to get drawn into DJ'S life by misspoken words. Being held to a morals clause in her contract with the pageant, she tries to keep her attraction to DJ under wraps, but they have a spark neither can deny & the press is there to catch every wrong move they make right up to Samantha's dismissal from her title & the loss of her music program she's trying to get back in the school system in their area. The interaction between DJ & Samantha is steamy hot. Looking forward to reading more in this series. Definite recommend.

HASH(0x9e92af00) out of 5 stars A perfect book to kick off baseball season! April 6 2014
By CityGirl17 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Samantha is a pageant queen who wants to make a difference in the lives of children, by bringing music to their schools. A public relationship is frowned upon, and if she doesn't live up to certain expectations, she could lose her crown and the means to make her dream a reality. Sparks FLY when she meets D.J., a pitcher for a major league ball club. His relationship with his father and his expectations for his son add layers of complexity and angst and affect his relationship with Sam. Their attraction is immediate and their phone calls during D.J.'s road trip allow their relationship to grow in a unique way.

This is a wonderful read by a very talented author. Mindy mixes emotions and descriptions and creates a wonderful world for the reader. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!

HASH(0x9e92af54) out of 5 stars Perfect Pitch was pitchy June 20 2014

While well written (no typos or grammar issues), but I didn't get drawn into these characters and I really like stories within the sports subgenre.

This is a relatively short story (read in one setting in just a couple of hours), I felt that some aspects needed better closure (the relationship with his father, as one example).

There's an HEA, but you never get to read "I love you" between the characters. They never say it to each other, even though the author has made it clear they're in love. A letdown.

HASH(0x9e92c24c) out of 5 stars Pitch Perfect and a double entendre! April 9 2014

I have read most of Mindy Klasky's books. This is by far my favorite.

Samantha, a minor beauty queen, receives a number of texts in the middle of the night. Pitcher DJ Thomas has slammed her title. To make amends, there is a forced meeting complete with roses and a public apology. When the two meet, sparks fly and they become enamored of each other. There is even a young son who likes the music that Samantha offers in his school. Samantha's obligations prohibit her from having a relationship, but the two find a way.

I liked the conflict in the story and the sex was actually sexy and interesting rather than perfunctory. The story was fun and a quick read. Be prepared to stay up to finish it!

HASH(0x9e92c144) out of 5 stars Too much baseball terms with no explanations June 28 2014

A special thank to the author, for sharing her story for free, and for creating an interesting premise. Personally, the conflict didn't sustain my interest, but I'm sure other readers would enjoy the story.

*Spoilers Alert*

Samantha is a military brat who'd been shuffled from one place to another due to her father's career. The only thing constant in her life had been her love for music. Now as the Summer Queen, she has the chance to bring music into children's life with her charity. When a pitcher insults her on national television, she has no one to turn to because all of her friends had deserted her. I had hoped that she'd gain new friends along the story, but it didn't happen. I also wondered about the absence of her family--while her parents were mentioned, they didn't appear even after their daughter's name was splashed and shredded in the media. And how in the first place had she gotten into the pageant circuit when most of the time she seemed so unhappy about it?

DJ is a baseball pitcher spurred to succeed by an abusive father. As the sad case with abusive children mostly is, he reflects the abuse on his own son. True, the abuse is not physical, as he mostly crushes the child's dreams of learning music, but it's an abuse nonetheless. This point wasn't made clear in the story, and I believe it deserved to be called by its name. When Samantha tries to defend DJ's son's wish to study music, they run into an argument. But, she meekly draws back and time after time when he insults her, she takes him back. That could have turned into another abusive relationship if it wasn't for a teammate who gave DJ a halfhearted advice at the end of the story. And I am left wondering, what kind of army brat would be so meek?

Most of the story is about them sharing some insignificant tidbits about their life, some sex scenes, and a bit of conflict. Things blaw up when the press catch DJ with his hands behind her skirt while his father insults him. DJ drives them to a remote cabin, only to insult her after she keeps asking him what to do next and what will become of them. Then he drives her back home and leave her to deal with the consequences of loosing her crown, her job, her charity, and her whole dang life by herself. When they finally get back together, after DJ proposes in front of the media, the son (who'd been such an integral part of the story) is left out.

A future request for the author:
Please, either cut out some of the technical baseball terms, or explain them to a reader who isn't familiar with the game. I love romance, love getting to know new worlds as a story enfolds while I read. I've read some sport romances--this is not my first--and enjoyed them because the author had pulled me into the story world by showing me the character's life. I had to skim a lot of parts with baseball terms because I didn't understand them. Yes, I could go and WIKI them, but wouldn't that be counterproductive to being pulled into a story?

This short romance quickly draws you into the world of Samantha Winger - from her undesired first encounter with baseball pitcher D.J. Thomas all the way through the complicated, intense and sexy adventure that ensues. Vividly written, romantic and erotic, this is the perfect read to shake off the winter blues and embrace the passion of spring. Highly recommended!
