Product Description

A missing pet. A gang of criminal pit bulls. Two cat detectives are ready to solve a mystery…

Yoshi and Gatsby are two felines known as the Petectives. When they agree to help a pretty young cat find her missing brother, a routine pet investigation goes sour faster than a bowl of milk.

To solve the mystery, the cat detectives must face down a gang of vicious criminal pit bulls and the neighborhood dog police. While Gatsby's up to his whiskers in danger and romance, Yoshi puts together the pieces of a puzzle that could rock their community. With enemies at every turn, can Yoshi and Gatsby find the missing cat and shut down a dog fighting operation in time?

It's all in a night's work for the Petectives!

Petectives is the first book in an animal mystery series that features saucy banter, adventurous animals, and charming dialogue. If you love mysteries or books with animals as the lead characters, then you'll love the light-hearted dip into a world of cat detectives.

Buy the book today to find the real culprit in this humorous whodunnit!

3.0 out of 5 stars Petectives Sept. 11 2013

I've always loved books with animals as the main characters -- The Rescuers series of books by Margery Sharp, The Hundred and One Dalmations, A Cricket in Times Square and its sequels.... so of course Petectives - A Cat Mystery by Robert J. Smith caught my interest. Yoshi and Gatsby are cat detectives trying to locate a missing show cat and investigate rumors of a dog fighting ring in their neighborhood. It's a short, fun read that reminds me of the old time radio shows our family is always listening to. Hard-boiled cat detectives -- what's not to like?

5.0 out of 5 stars I love these cats! Dogs, too! Aug. 16 2013

I'm in love with Gatsby, Yoshi, Duke and the whole gang. I found this little story so enchanting, and found myself laughing out loud at some of Gatsby's lines. This was such a fun read and I hope to get the others in the series. Highly recommend this book for people who love pet stories.

I got a kick out of Gatsby, who falls in love with his clients and Yoshi who is in perpetual love with naps. Great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good beginning for a great series. Jan. 12 2017

I liked this book so much that I bought the other 3 from the series immediately after finishing this one. I read all four of them this week and thoroughly enjoyed them. No doubt some of that is because I love animals, especially cats. The Gatsby and Yoshi are a great pair with totally different personalities. They are based on the author's two cats. There is a picture of them on the Petective Facebook page. At the end of the fourth book, Stalking Horse, there is a preview of the fifth book Petectives: Heaven and Earth. I hope it comes out soon!

3.0 out of 5 stars Where is Butterscotch? June 12 2015
By Gail Christian - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Yoshi and Gatsby are petectives, and Molasses has asked them to help her find her missing brother, Butterscotch, a cat who has won first place in his breed in the last three cat shows he has entered. With another cat show coming up, Yoshi wonders if there is some type of foul play involved. Then again - there is talk of dog fighting in the neighborhood. Perhaps Butterscotch's disappearance might be connected to that despicable activity. Time for a little sleuthing.....

Yoshi is the brains of the operation, but he stays home and leaves the legwork to Gatsby. Can they solve this mystery and find Butterscotch? And will they be able to either put to rest the rumors of the dog fighting or prove the rumors true, and crack that case wide open as well?

This is a quick read so grab your copy and find out how good these petectives really are!

I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of Gatsby and friends. The author did a good job of character development. Each animal had its own personality. 🐱🐀🐶
