I really liked the performance of these Phiatons but I can't give a high recommendation as the clip is poorly constructed and broke without any good reason. I didn't drop them or handle them roughly (quite the opposite) but unfortunately the clip broke which makes them virtually useless. You can't have the box just dangle down so I unfortunately have stopped using them.

Can't recommend them as they don't last. Too bad as the quality of the sound and noise cancelling is great for the price.

I acquired a Phiaton PS 20 headset Dec 9, 2013 and have used it since, greatly enjoying the silence, and using the 2.5mm plug to connect to a music player. Its earphone has a solid copper wire support that had cracked the cord end. So I looked around to see about replacing/fixing it, and found the Phiaton PS 210 BTNC, which has the bluetooth capability for phone and music connection.

The PS 210 does not have quite the noise cancelling of the PS 20, letting through a bit more higher-frequency noise, but still doing a very credible job, without a music signal.

Where the PS 210 has its advantage over the PS 20 is the Bluetooth since it offers the ability to provide a background music, which need not be loud at all since it has very little background left to compete with. Being able to use background music effectively at a low level helps prevent you getting more noise fatigued, which you might if you were really trying to drown things out.

One can immediately hear the quietening and most of the background sounds hum/motors/air conditioners, ... are essentially gone. You go from having your normal background sounds to hearing your breath in your nose. The quality and frequency range is good with quite acceptable bass response and clear highs. With the noise cancelling, listening to a wide range orchestral piece like Bolero, is quite effective without having to crank the volume up on the early quiet bits and crank it down later as the music gets louder.

This means that it can be used to distract you from distractions and get some work done effectively. The ability to answer the phone, control the player through the bluetooth makes things very convenient. Since it can also work through the 2.

I have had some earbuds with great sound quality but they soon feel like a big ball of warm wax in my ear canal and else they made my ear cartilage hurt after an hour, so my primary goal was to pull the annoying things out of my ear. Some people probably have ear shapes where none of this bothers them, but I know many, including my wife, who cannot wear sound isolating buds for more than a few minutes. Anyone who dislikes that aspect of earbuds knows what I mean. These are far more comfortable because of the semi open design so they don't need to stick like a cork in your ear. The sound quality is quite good, although not as open or clear as my Sennheiser Momentum over ear headphones. However, I have used them a couple of times on extremely long international flights to Asia (14 hour flights) and they made the flight a lot more enjoyable. They do not cut out background sound completely, but where other headphones or earbuds either become uncomfortable after an hour (or less), or don't sufficiently isolate the whoosh air sound of the jet, these remove it sufficiently (but definitely not completely) so that you can enjoy listening to your music. Travelling in the car, when you turn on the noise cancellation function, the low rumble of the road disappears and again, the music becomes far more enjoyable. I would not use them as my primary listening device where my goal is to maximize sound quality because a good (but at more than double the price) set of headphones will sound better, but for extended listening or portability or travel, these are very good, and for that I consider them to be a great buy. I've read a few reviews on Amazon where people said the bass wasn't heavy enough for them. I think that is a matter of taste. It's definitely not my view.Read more ›

Fit and Design: These earbuds fit rather uniquely, as they're "semi open". They feel like they're half-sitting in your ear, but sit firmly enough that you're not going to encounter it falling out on you. The earbuds themselves offer seemingly no passive noise-cancellation, which is a little strange, but it's by design. If you're wearing a jacket or coat the dongle clips on easy, but it's really unpractical if you're just wearing a shirt. The dongle is too heavy to leave dangling, and the included neck strap makes the unit rather bulky. Having only used it during the winter, I can't say that the clip has annoyed me yet. The earbuds themselves have such a large surface area and stick out so much that you'll hear the wind blowing, which can be really annoying.

Noise-cancellation: While the active noise-cancellation is effective, given the semi-open design of these earbuds basically mean that when the earbuds are in and noise-cancellation is on, you're cutting out as much noise as any other closed earbud. The active noise-cancellation is nowhere near silencing, but it counteracts the background noise of the semi-open design, so what you're left with is average noise-cancelling but with a larger than average sound stage. Turning on the noise-cancellation doesn't really do much to the sound, which is actually quite uncommon. But, since the noise-cancelling isn't that special, maybe it's a bit of a wash.

Battery life: The battery life is really good, easily reaching double-digit hours as indicated on the box. With the ability to use the earbuds completely passive with the included cable, you're never left in a lurch.

Bluetooth: Pairing the earbuds was easy, and there isn't a huge difference between passively wired and Bluetooth/noise-cancelling mode.
