"Pierced was so enticing and gritty, I was on edge, heart rapidly skipping. Hook. Line. Sinker." ---MissyDevoursDelishReads

Product Description

“Oh, Lia, you never challenge a man like me. I promise you; you’ll do everything I want you to do and beg for more."

My name is Lucian Quinn and I own one of the most successful software companies in the world. I’m twenty-nine, rich and single. Impressive right? I’m also a favorite target for every hungry socialite looking to land the uncatchable catch. Maybe it sounds vain, but the fact that I’m a God between the sheets doesn’t hurt my stock any. What these women don’t know though is that I’m completely screwed up and damaged beyond repair by my past. The only part of me I’ll ever willingly give them is the hour it takes to make them scream…several times.

Then I saw her…

I’m Lia Adams and I’m in my last year at St. Claire’s University in North Carolina. I grew up with an abusive mother, and a twisted stepfather who was worse…so much worse. I’m so close to escaping from my past and making my dreams come true. I’ll do anything necessary to survive, even work as an escort to help pay for my college expenses. The men that I accompany to various events as an escort for Date Night are mostly harmless and just want an attractive woman on their arm for an evening. It has never gone further than that…until him…

“I want you to call into work tomorrow and quit your job. I don’t think you need to bother with notice; it’s not likely you will ever use them for a future job reference.”
I nod my head in agreement, fighting the sleep threatening to claim me when his words finally hit me. What the h***? “Wh—What did you say?” Had I imagined the whole thing?
Without looking at me, he repeats his demand. I shake my head, completely confused. “What are you talking about? Why would I quit my job? Oh, no,” I gasp in horror, “are you trying to get me fired because of tonight? It was just cold medicine!”
His eyes are glittering in the darkness. “Baby, if I wanted to have you fired, I would. I want to f*** you, but not when you’re being paid to be my date.”

Circumstances bring two people that should have never crossed paths together and in the days and weeks ahead, they grow close quickly, each seeing a kindred soul in the other. As ghosts from their past rise to haunt them, they cling to each other as their lives start to spiral out of control. Soon, they realize that they’re both damaged possibly beyond repair. Will their love be what saves or destroys them?

This book is meant for mature readers who are 18+. It contains explicit language, and graphic sexual content.

**Book 1 of the Lucian & Lia Trilogy.**

I bought this because the cover appealed and it was on sale. I have started to write reviews because I was tired of reading sunshine getting blown up an author's a**!!! I want honest opinions in reviews. I try not to be too blunt, but sometimes it gets away from me. If an author has the audacity to manipulate me or try to be sneaky with their writing, I am going to call them out on it.

Here are my issues with it, and yes, it will contain what some consider spoilers, so warning now! If you don't want to know more... stop reading my review :)

***SPOILERS***
This book felt like the author had just finished reading the Crossfire series. I had glanced at the reviews before buying it, to see if there were any negative ones. I didn't see any!! Now, as I scroll back over them, I do see some comments about a ...cliff hanger.... but I am also surprised that so many rave about this book. And that the reviews don't mention how much they are reminded of Gideon Cross, seriously! Am I the only one that sees the similarity and bugged by it?

I wanted to like this book. There was a point where my gut said "oh noooo.... this reads too much like that series about a tormented Hero", but I kept reading. I want to give every author the benefit of the doubt. Another gut clench, and again, but at some point, I just ignored the repeated gut clenches, and kept reading because the author did intrigue me. The writing was good, I was getting caught up in the drama. I had a feeling that it was going to go the way it did.

Angst - check!!! a secret the Hero won't divulge, it involves a crazy ex. He also has an ex that "wanted more" but the Hero just didn't want the same thing... I was surprised the song Toxic didn't come on.
Tormented Hero - check!!!

This is book 1 in a trilogy and it delivers so much punch that you will look forward to book 2 even before you finish book 1. This book tells the story of Lucien and Lia who meet under unusual circumstanced and they begin a relationship that neither expected or wanted but turns out to be exactly what they needed. If you are a fan of Sydney Landon you will no be disappointed in her new series and will be anxiously waiting for book 2,

The writing is solid. I'm not a fan of first person. It always seems so disjointed to me. The backbone of a book is creativity and this is a knockoff of a couple popular books already written. If you love the Crossfire series and you're looking for another hit, then you'll find it here. It's got all the trope you're looking for. 1) Tortured wealthy hero (why are they always womanizing loners? 2) Heroine is a blonde tortured female with no money (why are they always nearly destitute?) 3) The kind-hearted chauffeur that the heroine befriends to squeeze info about the hero from (I'm pretty sure rich people drive their own cars most of the time) 4) Hero is not only tortured but addicted to some substance (Why?) 5) The heroine can have six orgasms in a row (Oh for the love of God, I'm sick of seeing this BS 6) A close sicko step relative out to get the heroine and the mother doesn't care (Really?) 7) The "other" woman who is panting for the hero always lurking in the background. In this case she is outrageously insulting, and no one seems to say "hit the road you cow". (Go figure) 8) The woman from the hero's past who no doubt will make a reappearance somewhere to make the reader shake and shudder with "oh no will he leave Lia for the woman he actually hates who has been in a comatose state for eight years but suddenly rises from the ashes to threaten the heroine. (My head is banging on the desk top now)

OH.MY.GOD!!! I feel like I have just been punched in the stomach!!! I have been searching for a great book or series for a long time now. Something that is in the same class as my favorites like This Man, 50 Shades, Bared to You, Blackstone Affair, Stark Series, Crashed, Up in the Air, Bad Things etc and I THINK I HAVE FOUND IT!!!! This book was simply put AMAZING!!! It had me from page one and held on until the end when it just broke me! I can't wait to continue. The story had it all! Two damaged souls, a strong damaged heroine, a sexy damaged alpha-male, suspense, angst, heartbreak, and of course steamy sex scenes. I have book 2 waiting on my Kindle and for this I am so grateful or else I wouldn't be able to sleep without knowing what happens next. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!!!

This is by no means the next great novel of literature, it's a chic book and that was what I was looking for while on vacation. I was surprised at how much I laughed and enjoyed it. Read it so quickly - looked up the next one in the series - just to see what happened next. Now at home and third book in the series has not been released yet - but will look for it soon - just to finish and hopefully all will live happily ever after.

While the story line was somewhat predictable (I mean, how many times have we heard the rich CEO story now...that being said, I chose the book knowing that was the story) the details of Lucian and Lia's backgrounds enriched the story and made it more believable. And I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed the detailed sex scenes too! LOL. I have read through book 2, and I have pre-ordered book 3. Keep it coming Sydney!!
