A few months ago I watched the movie The Way and it rekindled a distant recollection of conversational mention of the Camino de Santiago.
I have since researched at length what it would take to partake in this pilgrimage, though I question whether I will ever be able to consider myself "a Pilgrim".
The more I looked at the possibilities of taking part in this mysterious adventure, the more I wanted to explore the what/where/when/why/how aspects of carrying out the 800 km walking journey.
This book has made me decide that in a couple of months I will embark on the journey.
The book seems to encompass all I need to know, regarding the "w" list above. It has been carefully thought through in numerous past editions, contains excellent advice as to what to consider both from a physical and inner point of view prior to and during the journey, and even the quality and size of the book, is considered, so it can be used enroute.
Maps are detailed and pertinent to the would be adventurer/pilgrim.
Thanks to this book I am about to venture, well informed, onto what will almost surely be, the biggest adventure of my considerable years, and this book will be an important guide, during my travel.
Congratulations to the author.

27 May......I have now completed my Camino and my John Brierley guide book looks as if it has travelled 800 kms in the map pocket of my pants!
I am even more convinced that this book has to be the best there is for information and a "must" for anyone contemplating the Route Frances.
Some of my friends from other countries had their own guide books, but invariably, we relied on this guide to make final decisions on stopping points, gradients to be considered, alternate routes, locations of points of interest, including fountains, and a host of other useful information. I took no other book or maps with me. This book does it all.
Well done John Brierley.

Firstly, to anyone with some cartography experience, don't sweat the lack of an NTS type of map base. This is prepared and tuned (it's refreshed annually) to provide you with the best navigation and guidance available. If the maps don't make sense to you while you're planning your trip, just know that they are excellent as you're walking along. The information on accomodation and features along the way is invaluable. As you are weighing every ounce against perceived value as you prepare your pack for the trek, just know that this is the one item you really don't want to leave behind.

This book is an essential resource when walking the Camino. As usual Brierley has updated it with the most recent information regarding accommodation etc. It is exactly what I anticipated it would be.
