Awesome! Everyone says Led Zep wrote heady lyrics and music (which they did) but PF wrote and performed some of the best music of all time. In my opinion, this is their best album. Other PF purists will agree and disagree. This is a "must have" for every fan on PF, and for those who don't really listen to PF. Watch this DVD and I guarantee you, there is a lot more to PF than their song "money". Play it loud!
Wonderfully insightful and illuminating, as the documentary takes the viewer through DSOTM track-by-track. The retrospective uses present-day interviews of band members, sound engineers and rock music journos to assess the impact of the album - and Pink Floyd generally - on the music industry and also socially. Some context surrounding the recording of the album is given - the social conditions of the day, a pervasive sense of despair, as well as the fact that the band itself was coming off a lengthy tour. More background could probably have been given and this is one of the reasons I give this a 4 and not a 5 rating. What's on the disk is great, but I could have had a bit more, even with the bonus items.
That said, it really did transport me back to my earlier days when I placed the needle down on my DSOTM record for the first time and got swept away. I very much enjoyed the explanations of the sound engineering (Alan Parsons was one of the engineers on the album, and recreates a lot of the effects here), and also the reflections of the different band members as they recalled how they came up with some of the riffs and so on. All in all, a purchase that I would make again.

I remember watching the programme on TV was it in 2003? I recorded it onto DVD from the TV, but of course it doesn't work now, so found this. It's the same one! Fantastic insight of the making - for me - of the greatest album all time. How did they make it in 1973? If they'd made it now it would still be a trailblazer. I still loved the quote from Roger Waters 'I'm amazed I got away with it, because it was so lower sixth' . Well Roger I was lower 6th in 1973.
This documentary should have been included in the Immersion Edition of "The Dark Side of the Moon".
Everything you'd like to know about this album is here. Classic Albums are reliable, as always.
"Any Colour You Like" isn't included though, which is too bad.
The highlights are the acoustic performances by the individual band members. Especially "Brain Damage" (performed by Roger Waters), which is so good that I had to have it in my computer.
These making of DVDs are all great Duran Duran Rio , Metallica Black , Rumours ,Iron maidens Number of the Beast however this DSOTM I thought was the best 10/10
