There are a lot of plants but not a single mushroom, which is fine. I would just like to see the uses of the plants more accessible rather than hidden in the notes section. Or at least put a bullet point for each individual note so you can easily scan through them. Other than that, this book is perfect!

This book has it all.
It has a great many plant photos with descriptions laid out perfectly.
The pictures are big enough to accurately id plants, I wish someone would make a BC mushroom book in the same format.

PROS Very comprehensive with regards to species and the descriptions of each species. Details lookalikes and subspecies when relevant. Includes very comprehensive descriptions of native usage and edibility where relevant. BEST BC botanical book in existence as of 2015.

CONS? Have to stretch to find cons but let's just try to write as detailed a review as possible here. Good pictures but some entries have no photograph including bizarrely enough, the extremely prolific giant knotweeds. Some entries don't have botanical sketches. Rare enough to not really matter and not reduce this review to 4 stars. Cover and pages looks vaguely water resistant but IT'S NOT WATER RESISTANT so don't get cocky in the rain. The book covers major invasives but not all invasives are shown, but you wouldn't want thousands of invasives making this book twice as heavy, would you?

The best BC botanical book there is, my family has 3 copies.

Concise, interesting guide of plants in this region. Relatively easy to use, and as easy to use as could be considering the complexity and variety of the flora contained within. Seems to be more strongly made than the average softcover, which is good because you'll be pulling it in and out of your pack as you wander around the forest. A word of caution, make certain you consider the four fold increase in duration of your hikes when carrying this book; you won't be able to pass by a plant unidentified.

Too many invasive species are arriving in our area. What is indigenous and what is not. Nice to know when some are poisonus to us and our special pets.
