Product Description

Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller Lick.
Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast-at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn't plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn't count on finding the one right girl.
Anne Rollins never thought she'd ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls-especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn't end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

My Thoughts:

The Cover: Mmmm, what a beautiful cover. While I really liked the cover to Lick with angsty, dark and brooding David on the cover, I think the redesigned cover is totally wicked. Who wouldn't want a naked, tattooed, hot man stretched out on their bed?
The Plot: Play was a very well written story that moved along quickly, barely leaving you time to catch your breath. Lots of action, sex hot enough to leave the reader gasping, and a contemporary story that had me laughing, cheering, and crying throughout. Another awesome story by Kylie Scott.

The Characters: Kylie's characters were very well written and fun. I loved Mal, even though his mood swings made my head spin. Ann was a pretty kick-ass character, once she developed a back bone. Any one who can handle Mal would have to be! Their love story is pretty amazing and I really enjoyed watching it develope. The supporting characters were very well done as well. I liked that Ev and David and other members of Stage Dive were a major part of the story.

Is it Worth Reading?: Oh ya, definitely! This was one series that I will go back to. Play was such an intense read, I could not put it down. It reminds readers that love may be hard work, but it can see you through hard times. I definitely recommend Play to readers of contemporary and give it 4 out of 5 crossbows.

This story starts out with Anne going home from her job in a book store to find her apartment literally cleaned out. Her room mate left, taking everything and owing Anne money. To cheer her up her neighbors talk her into going to a party with them. Anne is not in the best mood for a party but since it's at the home of a member of the rock group Stage Dive, she goes. She has been a fan for years and can't pass up a chance to see them. She meets the drummer, Mal, and they strike up a bargain where Anne pretends to be his girlfriend and Mal pays her back rent (he also furnished her apartment).

Kylie Scott has a great way of writing about famous rock stars that makes us see that they are just people with problems like everybody else. The way they fix those problems may not be like the average person because they have mega bucks but she shows us that not all problems can be fixed with money.

I didn't like Mal in Lick because he was a man-whore so I didn't think I would like Play but I was so wrong! Being a famous drummer, Mal was used to getting anything he wanted - usually women (lots of them). He was somewhat crazy in the way he behaved and spoke but was so funny. Anne is a very kind person who always tried to make other people happy. Reece was her boss, who she had crushed on for two years but didn't let him know how she felt. He was quite the womanizer, flaunting this in Anne's face and asking her to do stuff for him. She always did what he asked. Anne's sister, Lizzy, was in college so this was another expense for Anne which she really couldn't afford, but found the money somehow.

I loved it when Anne saw a bunch of women wanting Mal and she thought "I couldn't kill all of them. I mean, where on earth would I hide so many bodies?"

This is a great series and I highly recommend it.

PLAY is the second instalment in Kylie Scott’s contemporary, adult, erotic Stage Dive series focusing on the members of the rock bank Stage Dive and the women they love. This is Stage Dive’s sexy and off the wall drummer Mal Ericson and twenty three year old book store clerk Anne Rollins’s story. Although we had not been previously introduced to Anne, she is Evelyn Ferris’s former neighbor-Ev married Stage Dive’s lead guitarist David Ferris in book one LICK.

Told from Anne’s first person point of view the storyline focuses on Mal and Anne’s very new relationship. Our couple meet at a party at David and Evelyn’s condo where Mal is immediately drawn to Anne. Mal is a man who possesses the smooth charm and even smoother tongue to make any woman swoon but it is hyper active/manic personality that draws people like a moth to a flame. A sexy drummer with a reputation for one night stands, Anne isn’t fooled by Mal’s charm-there is something sad hiding behind Mal’s comedic façade-a sadness that Anne recognizes only too well. Mal and Anne’s relationship is a very-quick friends to lovers storyline that is incredibly hot, intimate and intense.

Anne will remind many readers about themselves or someone that they know-she has been taken advantage of time and again-from her boss to her former roommate Anne’s life is currently defined by the number of times she has been screwed by the people that she trusts. In this, our couple’s story will begin when Mal makes her an offer that she could not refuse because Mal isn’t accepting anything less. Anne is about to lose her apartment and Mal offers himself up to be her new roommate.
