About the Author

Ever since the age of nine, KoKo Brown has had a love for the written word. In the fourth grade, she published her own newspaper. Turning a tidy profit from the very first issue, the publication was put out of business by Koko's grade school principal, who didn't appreciate outside competition against the school's newspaper. Undaunted, KoKo has never strayed too far from her "passion", whether it was writing for her college's literary magazine, bringing some "liveliness" to her local newspaper's obituary page, or writing web page content, blogs and ads to attract visitors to Florida's east coast. When not writing, this Florida native likes spending time with family and friends, riding her Yamaha 650 Classic, surfing the internet, or traveling to exotic locales.

I loved this book! It was well written, not like some of the other fluff, that's out there, where the story was written I only 20 minutes. Well thought out plot, and good character development. The sexual chemistry between the two main characters was off the charts! Found myself watching European soccer. What a hot read!!! Read "The Player's Challenge", by the same author, just as hot!

HASH(0xa5b9554c) out of 5 stars Suprisingly good! Jan. 2 2012
By Taija - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I came across this as it was an Amazon recommendation based on other books I had read. I must say I was impressed! The cover, while sexy, didn't provide a good basis for how well this book was written. It was virtually free of all of those typos and grammatical errors that seem to plague other books of this nature. Yvonne is an educated black female who agrees to play the part of fiancé for her best friend, Robbie, who happens to be a gay soccer player living abroad. He is trying to get a multi-year contract from one of the teams, but knows that his chances could be affected if the media got hold of the fact that he was gay. The captain of the team, Paulo, can't stand Robbie as he feels that he is the reason behind his best friend's suicide. At the same time he is enamored of Yvonne almost to the point of obsession.
The characters are all well developed and Ms. Brown really takes the time to provide insight into their lives and how they feel. The details, from how Robbie picked out Yvonne's clothes and assisted her with make up, to how the other "trophy wives" acted all came together beautifully to create one heck of a good story. I loved the fact that the setting, story line, and plot were all fresh without any of the normal clichés usually associated with anything un-American. Paulo was Brazilian (with some Japanese thrown in) and he didn't call Yvonne the overused and offensive "Mami" at every turn. It seems to me that many authors just go with what they know off hand when dealing with anything out of the norm. Ms. Brown seemed to have personal knowledge (or did some darn good research) about football (aka soccer), living abroad, and the different European countries she magically transports you to.
And talk about steamy love scenes. She got my attention quick and didn't have to revert to the shock tactics to get me fantasizing. It was well worth the unbelievably low price and it was a good long read so I felt like it was money well spent. I am looking for more from Ms. Brown as soon as I post this!

HASH(0xa5b95798) out of 5 stars A base hit not a home run Jan. 16 2012

I wont go too much into this story because there are other reviews that do just that. This story could have been a home run but, the inconsistencies ruined it.

You mean to tell me that Yvonne and Robbie are such good friends she is willing to pose as his fiancee but Yvonne didn't feel comfortable enough to tell him about the love affair she was having with Paolo??? that didn't seem logical. In fact there were a lot of illogical things in this story. For example, Paolo's best friend committed suicide and Robbie was loosely connected with the death. This gave Paolo a reason to hate Robbie but it didn't explain why Robbie would have a issue with Yvonne taking Paolo as her lover. Also, the situation at the end of the story, (I won't spoil it by telling you) but it was so ill timed. It seemed like it was thrown in just to wrap up the story. I don't know how she thought she would get away with hiding it. It was just too over the top. This story was okay it started out with a nice premise but it was not well thought out which made it more like a base hit than a home run.

HASH(0xa5b9575c) out of 5 stars Spicy little read! Dec 19 2011

I was reluctant to read to read this, as I had read another of the author's works and had not been impressed. Well, this book certainly proves that practice makes (nearly) perfect! Not only was there great plot and character development, but the writing was interesting and easily held my attention. The plot is unique, involving a gay soccer player who pays his best friend to pose as his fiancee. Of course, she is attracted to one of his teammates, which causes all kinds of trouble. And what delicious trouble it was. The sex scenes are super HOT! Quite a satisfying read that's worth every penny!

HASH(0xa5b95a50) out of 5 stars Good erotic romance Jan. 13 2014

3-3.5 stars

This was an enjoyable story. I liked Yvonne and Paolo...well he's hot, sometimes sweet and I had mixed feelings about him at times but in the end I liked him too.

Yvonne is a graduate student and has a great head for business. She's almost done with her degree when her best friend, Robbie, asks her to put her life on hold and help him out of a bind. Robbie is a professional football player (European football aka soccer) and gay. There has been some bad press around him that he is worried will cause him not to get a contract renewal and ruin his career. Robbie convinces Yvonne to pose as his fiancee until the end of the season in exchange for paying off her student loans. She agrees and joins him in Rome (where Robbie's team is located) to start her role as his fake fiancee.

Paolo had a tough life growing up and had to fight hard for everything he has. He excels in football and is one of the highest paid players in the European league. He's also very smart and has other business interests as well. Paolo is known as a playboy but his rep seems to be a bit blown out of proportions the paparazzi and wanna-be girlfriends. Paolo has some mis-placed anger toward Robbie because he replace a friend of Paolo's on the team (with some deeper stuff mixed in). It's not really Robbie's fault but Paolo wants to bring him down. Because of this, when Paolo meets Yvonne and finds out she's Robbie's fiancee, he decides (with some encouragement from a greedy jerk) to try to seduce her and make trouble for Robbie through her.

Yvonne and Robbie show up at their first game together and the press get to see them as a couple after the game. Things are going pretty well until, while waiting outside the locker room for Robbie to come out, Yvonne ends up meeting Paolo and is instantly weak in the knees at the sight of him. She also gets the impression that he doesn't like Robbie very well which makes her seemingly uncontrollable attraction for him a big problem. Over the next few weeks they meet a couple times and Yvonne can never seem to control her attraction to him...barely keeping from doing things she shouldn't with him on multiple occasions. Paolo tries seducing her but is also very attracted to Yvonne and finds that more and more he just wants to be with her and not caring about Robbie except for the fact that Robbie and Yvonne's "relationship" is keeping Paolo from being with Yvonne full time. Yvonne manages to avoid anything to major going down with Paolo (although there are a few intense encounters) until she goes to a masked ball during the Carnival celebration. Yvonne meets a masked man and feels a strong attraction. Not knowing who her masked man is (and not thinking he knows who she is), Yvonne ends up spending the night with him. Before she can escape the next morning she finds out it was Paolo she slept with and he's not willing to just let it go. He uses her wish for silence to blackmail her in to being his lover on a regular basis. Not wanting to risk ruining Robbie's career and admitting to herself that she's not good at saying no to Paolo, Yvonne agrees to his proposal.

Paolo and Yvonne engage in their clandestine affair and although Yvonne feels guilty about lying to Robbie, she feels she has to in order to save him in the end. Yvonne is sure that Paolo will get tired of her sooner or later and hopefully he'll keep his promise not to leak anything to the press or Robbie. I actually liked the method that Paolo set up for Yvonne to visit him without raising any suspicion. It was kind of sweet because he gave Yvonne something she liked while getting time with her. Paolo had his moments both ways..sometimes sweet and sometimes a real jerk. Yvonne isn't what I'd call a strong female character but she does have her moments. They both start to have deeper feelings for each other as they spend more and more time together. Paolo finally realizes that he doesn't care about his revenge any more and just wants Yvonne. He's determined to win her from Robbie one way or another. Unfortunately, Paolo makes a wrong move and pushes Yvonne too far and she breaks it off with him regardless of the consequences. She admits things to Robbie and they wait to see what happens. I don't want to go in to too much detail but there is some surprises and some drama before everything is over. To be honest, there was a little too much drama because Yvonne gets hurt at one point because no one bothered to let her in on the plan (making her to feel betrayed on multiple levels). Regardless of this, things do work out and Yvonne and Paolo get their HEA.

I enjoyed reading this story. I liked the characters but wished the secondary character would have been a little more fleshed out. I think that Robbie should have been a little more involved and active in the story but maybe I'm just being picky. Overall, this was a good story.

HASH(0xa5b95ab0) out of 5 stars How Far Would YOU Go For A Friend? Feb. 26 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Roma Internazionale's team captain, Paolo Saito is mourning the death of his best friend and teammate João Schmitt. Paolo wants to punish his new teammate, Robbie Gutierrez, who he feels is responsible for João slipping into depression and killing himself. So, he hires an unscrupulous paparazzo to follow his new teammate around and get the dirt on him.

After all, there's nothing in the world the Brazilian born, Japanese footballer wants that he doesn't get.

Nothing - whether it's revenge or a woman. And if getting revenge upon the one person he hates most, happens to involve seducing a woman he can't keep his eyes or hands off of, even better.

Yvonne Floyd's best friend, Robbie Gutierrez has a problem. He needs to get the press off his back regarding his sexual preferences. And what are friends for if they can't help you out in times of need? They've been friends forever, so she agrees to it. After all, aside from getting to spend time with her best friend in Italy while shopping in exclusive designer stores, Robbie's going to pay off her student loans and give her enough money to buy herself a condo to show his gratitude.

Simple enough, right? Wrong.

Problem is, the chemistry between Yvonne and Robbie's arch-nemesis, Paolo is immediate and absolutely off the charts. And while the appearance of Robbie's fiancée might quiet the press, every fiber in Paolo's body screams that Yvonne might love Robbie, but she belongs to only him.

Now, Yvonne and Paolo have another set of problems.

How can she support her best friend in obtaining his life's goal, while going after what her heart and body desires the most? And for Paolo, how can he honor the memory of his best friend and still "sleep with the enemy?"

From the opening scene of Koko Brown's "Player's Ultimatum," Ms. Brown simply asks readers, "How far would you go to protect a friend?" and more importantly, "Can you selflessly give up a chance at real love and personal happiness for the sake of a friend?" Yvonne and Paolo, even with all of his arrogance, from time to time have to ask themselves this question and it's not an easy question for either of them to contemplate, never mind answer honestly.

Packed with sexual tension and hot love scenes from beginning to end, "Player's Ultimatum" reminds readers of how passion can get so hot and out of control that it cannot, and will not, be denied. Even in the face of impending disaster for all concerned.

What IMRR....

Likes...dare we say, LOVED that the author chose a Japanese hero that had been born and raised in Brazil. He gave the book an interesting flavor that we truly enjoyed.

Dislikes: We've given this book a 4 ½ Star rating. Do you REALLY think there was anything we could've disliked about it?

The only reason, the book didn't receive a 5 star rating was due to some easy to ignore punctuation/grammar errors that spellcheck may have ignored due to the fact that the words weren't misspelled. Shoot, we gladly volunteer to beta-read anything Ms. Brown writes from this point forward to assure that her next review from us is a 5 star.

IMRR's Favorite Scene:

There's a toss-up for favorite scene.

We LOVED the masquerade ball scene.

Dressed as Little Bo Peep, Yvonne, finds herself at the...ahem...mercy of the Big, Bad and Deliciously Sexy Wolf. She lets down her guard enough to be honest enough with him to say, "I don't want to sleep alone tonight." Not that she did a lot of sleeping. Ha-ha-ha!!!!

But equally seductive is a scene in a ladies room further along in the story. We won't go into detail, but it's in a ladies room and it's the kind of scene that not only forces a reader to turn on a fan, but smile near its conclusion when Yvonne gives Paolo a reality check.

You've gotta love a woman willing to give a man a reality check!
