This is a really good story. Very riveting! This is not your average office romance. I am very interested to see what happens next.

Perhaps even 3.5 stars. Kudos to the author for something different than the usual billionaire boss and the secretary. But I didn't really like Eva and Julian. He was not my idea of a hero. He was cold, ruthless, demanding and whorish. True he changed Eva and helped her regain her confidence, but the emotional damage he was likely to cause made him the antithesis of a hero for me. Eva was his toy all along and it took her far too long to get that message. She responded so physically to him but she ignored what her mind told her.

Sure it is an interesting plot and written with many sensual scenes, but for me it wasn't enough. Julian's games were off putting. He used Eva the same way as he used most of the female staff. He has money great sex and power to offer her, but little else. I don't like game playing hunters.

It was an interesting enough read, although a little too heavy on the sex element. There is a sequel but I'm not sure it would interest me. Even a HEA won't do it. With Julian, it wouldn't be a HEA, scratch the ever after.

5.0 out of 5 stars Julian is only getting started! Aug. 13 2017
By Mia - Published on Amazon.com

I love this series. It is truly one of my favorites, right up there with Crossfire. I first read this book as a part of a boxed set of all three books, which are now being rereleased with some minor changes to them. So far, the changes are insignificant, with the only noticeable one being Mia has had her name changed to Meghan. No big deal.
I am not happy about the author separating these books for the simple reason that the first book isn't the strongest. It is the weakest. In fact, if I hadn't read them many times already and I was now faced with the decision to purchase the next book or not, I would have to think about it, wondering if it would be worth it. I assure you it is going to be SO worth it! And if in fact my review encourages you to continue on with these books, you will be amazed at how far they go!
You may wonder why I gave five stars to the first book in a series of three that I already say is not the best book in the series? Simple; while alone it might not be worth a five star rating, once you finish the series of three you will love the first book so much more. No, the first book really doesn't stand on its own but now I guess I am limited to reviewing only the first installment. I hope that my readers will understand that my love for this story comes from all three volumes as a whole story.

Would you like a summary? Here is mine.

Eva is living in Ireland. You will quickly realize that she has run away from her childhood in New Jersey, but it is not clear why. Her father was an alcoholic, and was abusive, but the rest of the family story is not clear. After living and working in Ireland for nearly a year, she is starting to make a couple friends at work. And her super creepy boss seems to have developed a sexually harassing interest in her. But she tolerates it.
The company has an annual party, a fancy ball this year, which Eva doesn't realize she is the guest of honor to. She would like to skip it, but is told it's mandatory, so she goes about finding a date.
Enter Julian, a super sexy escort she hires off a website! Julian comes on very strong. He arranges to meet Eva right away. He's gorgeous, rich, dominant and kinky as all get out. Eva is drawn to Julian, while a new guy in the office tries to pursue her. She is torn; bad/rich guy Julian, or sweet/nerdy guy Nathan (who really doesn't turn her on). Julian seems dangerous, and so mysterious. He says he doesn't do committed relationships. He drives Eva crazy with mind-blowing sex. Nathan doesn't stand a chance.
The company party reveals many strange secrets to Eva, and also forces her to have to choose the direction she will follow at the next crossroads of her life. Playing Irish ends with so many questions unanswered, and a few big hints on the secrets of Julian's past. I hope that my summary was enough to entice new readers for this series without spoiling any of its secrets!

I'll admit that at this point, Julian seems like way more trouble than he's worth. I really didn't like him at all when I first read this series. He plays games, like all the time. He can be too dominating. He is jealous. He won't offer any kind of a commitment to Eva, ever. He has so many secrets. I wondered why Eva couldn't resist him, he was really a bit of an arse. He doesn't act in a manner that seems at all loving toward Eva. But he clicked. I could start to feel what she was feeling for him. Other than mind blowing sex, he would keep Eva at a distance. As I read, I knew there was so SO much more to the story! As Playing Irish ends, there is no HEA, just a crappy cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers. We all hate cliffhangers. But now, I will try to convince you to move onto the next book...

There are so many secrets that Eva has kept from Julian, and he has kept from her. Julian's young life was full of so much heartache and loneliness, it takes so long for the two to really find each other. There are so many obstacles standing between them; Julian's past and the guilt he feels, Eva's relationship with her family, organized crime, terminal illnesses, you get the idea. As the final book ends all too soon, there are so many surprises, so much love and romance, and giant heartbreak right in the middle of all of it. The ending is so beautiful and so satisfying. I hope that many of you who have read my review will find the journey of Eva and Julian as perfect as I do. Thank you.
4.0 out of 5 stars The editing could be better, just don't let it spoil it for you March 22 2016

I just finished the series. So for all of you who can't decide.... keep reading. The editing could be better, just don't let it spoil it for you. It's her first book. The characters seem shallow, remember what they say about icebergs. You will enjoy. I just wish author had been able to reveal more of the real people in this first book. Finish the series. Yah, I hate when you have to keep buying more books too. Hopefully the book world will get it one day. Julian really is a good guy, just guarded. He knows his way around a female body helps. Eva turns out to be more too. I just hate that it took a man to show her she was. Read on.
5.0 out of 5 stars Julian need i say more Feb. 14 2015

I love this book, the author made this book come alive with all the twists and turns, and I had a hard time putting it down. I would think I knew where it was going and bam another twist. I love serials only for the reason when I get so involved with the characters I know I'll be meeting up with them again. I know cliff hangers can be a downer but on the other hand it makes the next book much more exciting to get your hands on. I would recommend this author and book to everyone especially if they like hot guys who can be everything from mysterious, to aggravating to wanting their shoes under your own bed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings June 17 2014
By Holly - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The story itself was enjoyable but there were just too many issues in the book that kept pulling me out of the story and frustrating me. My first issue is that it's written in third person. I understand I am being told a story but it is just too hard for me to get into when I know I am being told the story instead of reading it from the first person position. It's just a personal preference but a big one for me.
The other issues is that author constantly contradicted the information and storyline. The majority of the story clearly states she's from New Jersey but in the end it referenced her shopping and going back home to New York. On that same issue she is from New Jersey or even New York she wouldn't be using the words or phrases such as knickers, trousers, lift etc. There were a few instances where something she or he was wearing or what they were doing was completely different the next minute in the same scene.
There were just so many times that she never ever questioned the so very obvious clues as to who he is and what was going on.
While frustrating I did finish the book and as stated the story itself was enjoyable enough to where I will probably read the next book just hoping it's a bit better as far as details go.
4.0 out of 5 stars fifty shades-esque Feb. 3 2015

So, this was very much Fifty Shades-esque. Not in a bad way, so don't get me wrong. I love me some alpha male, boss you around, scandalous reading, and this was just that. No bondage like FS, but similar plot. Ritchie Rich top dog, shy little girl (not really a little girl, but you know what I mean...), personal demons, etc. Sometimes it felt a bit rushed, and then other times it kind of felt like it was dragging, but my dirty side loved the sexy-time scenes so much, that I can forgive a lot lol :-) and, as such, I give Rules of Harte four great big steamy-scandalous-scantily clad stars :-)
