Product Description
Share Your Device(s) With Simplicity
The Plugable USB 3.0 Sharing Switch (USB3-SWITCH2) is the ideal solution for one-touch switching of access between two computers to a:
- Powered USB 3.0 hub
- USB keyboard/mouse
- USB 3.0 graphics adapter
- USB 3.0 docking station
- Virtually any other USB 3.0/2.0/1.0 device
Features
One-Touch Switching
A single button press is all that's required to toggle between connected computers. Blue LED indicator lights show which connected computer has control.
Potential To Do More
Looking to provide two-computer access to a single keyboard and mouse? Just attach the switch to a powered USB hub, then connect all your desired peripherals for an all-USB solution.
Just Plug In And Switch Away
Switch works with any USB-enabled computer without drivers. Attached external devices will still require drivers as usual.
In The Box
- 1x Plugable USB 3.0 Sharing Switch
- 2x USB-A to USB-B Cables (1m/3ft)
System Compatibility
- Windows 11, 10, 8.x, 7, Vista, XP
- macOS
- Linux
Important Notes
- Not able to directly charge connected laptops, or drive USB-C/Thunderbolt devices with video outputs.
- Not recommended for switching mass storage devices such as hard drives, flash drives, card readers, etc, as these devices should be unmounted or safely ejected via the host operating system prior to switching.
- Drivers are still required for the connected USB devices.
Additional Features

- Simple passive USB switch means no power adapter is needed (bus-powered).
Incompatible Setups and Features
- Autosensing of hosts is not supported; manual press of the button is required.
- USB-C devices with video output or power delivery are not supported.
- The use of USB-A to USB-B cables greater than 6ft/1.8m is not supported.

I have used the "Plugable USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter" before and found it to be top notch. Based on that product's performance and the good reviews forthis product, I decided to give the Sharing Switch a go. I have not been disappointed.
I have a MacBook Pro (Yosemite) and a desktop PC(Windows 8.1). I wanted to use a single keyboard and mouse between the two to eliminate desktop clutter. The keyboard is a full sized Apple Wired Keyboard with a two port USB 2.0 hub and the mouse is a wireless Logitech v200 with a USB wireless dongle. I have the dongle plugged into the keyboard and the keyboard plugged into the Plugable Sharing Switch. Switching the keyboard/mouse between the Mac and PC works perfectly.
I could have gone with a KVM Switch or with Plugable's USB 2.0 Sharing Switch. However, my monitor has enough ports and can switch between them that I didn't need the video switching that the (usually more expensive) KVM switches provided. Also, I didn't go for the older USB 2.0 Sharing Switch as I wanted the USB 3.0 to future-proof my investment.
Two concerns for me:
1. The blue LED light indicating which computer is selected is quite bright. Brighter than I generally like.
2. The included USB A to B cables are 3ft (1 meter) long. This was not long enough to reach one of my computers. I used a USB extension cable that I had and this worked for my needs.
Neither of these concerns warrant knocking off a star,
All in all a great product. I really like Plugable's stuff. I would recommend this item to others.
I ended up using this with my USB hub to switch between my personal and work computer and it works perfectly fine. Sometimes the hub is short on power for all my devices but the switcher does its job as it should.
The greatest thing is, because it's not like a hardware toggle switch, the switcher will connect to whichever device is on, if the other is off, so I can hide away the device and just use it as I'm turning on the person PC and turning of the work one.
Will potentially buy more for the few devices that I have that require full USB power.
One thing I will say is that the included cables are very think, probably to ensure a quality USB 3 connection, but this could make it awkward place the cables out of the way. The other down side is that the ports are on opposite ends. It would be easier and a cleaner setup if they were all on the same side and so you can just expose the switch buttons and not have any dangling cables. This minor change would give it a full 5 stars, but for this reason I gave it only 4.

Downsides: Blue lights on the buttons are very bright, doesn't really sit on a desk very well due to being very light and having 3 thick cables plugged into it, shiny black plastic (this is just a negative on its own IMO), not great build quality – but this doesn't really matter for the price.
My usage?
I have 2 pcs hooked up to this thing and they share my keyboard and mouse. Since I don't work on these two machines at the same time it works perfectly. Every time I want to use the other PC I just press the 1 or 2 in order to switch the input to the other machine. Takes about a second then it has switched. (Using windows 8.1 on both machines).
The price tag was a little high though.
And btw, the throughput when attaching an external HDD was pretty good too. Much better then using simple USB-2 interfaces.
