4.0 out of 5 stars `My ultimate goal is to write at least one novel' Aug. 12 2014
By Grady Harp - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Canadian author Marc Mullo places his debut book before the public as a fine, well designed, touching collection of poems - POETIC POTPOURRI. He apparently has been writing children's books and fiction and this is his own selection of poems of an endearing nature. Marc is also an active contributor to With an Open Mind - a public education project about mental health & mental illness in Thunder Bay and region (Marc was born and grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, and still resides there as a middle-aged bachelor, introvert and modest individual). On his website he offers the following response to a question about being a writer: `I think that the best thing about being a writer is having an artistic-like vision of putting words to good use. Being creative and passionate are also important. Having the freedom to express yourself in words is worthwhile and even uplifting. I like to think of myself as a "literary artist", even though I'm not an artist in the most traditional sense of that word. The arts and cultural industry will always be important to everyone, and is indeed a driving force in my life.'

To add to the artistic aspect of this poetry collection, each poem s accompanied by a pertinent color photograph - a symbol that adds to the meaning of Mullo's words. He celebrates his beloved Canada, addresses issues that affect the world, praises icons of courage, sports, seasons, places, and emotions. The writing is simple, straightforward and all the more powerful because of its honesty. This is a man who has grappled with depression and these poems are a lantern out of that darkness.

This has become a worldwide epidemic,
We are guilty of this planet getting sick,
Governments are getting in on the act,
All of us trying to lessen the impact,
Future generations are now under the gun,
Earth and its riches underneath the sun,
The Kyoto Protocol was supposedly the beginning,
Harper signed and perhaps created a momentum swing,
Other countries still have yet to buy in,
We're responsible for perhaps our greatest sin,
Our environment consumes our entire fragile existence,
The 3 R's and greenhouse gases reduced with due diligence,
My hope is that the damage isn't permanent,
Let's save our planet with continued grueling intent!

Making my way through life has been good and bad,
Always remembering the fun times that I had,
Realizing one's journey can be tough,
Climbing from the lows and obscurity can also be rough,
Wayne is my famous middle name,
Many like Gretzky and Cashman played their own game,
Underneath it all is a great shy middle aged man,
Loving to write plus going to camp and just doing the best I can,
Limited in my ability to do certain things,
Opening up to others is still hard although I'm trying to spread my wings!

Pause and read and re-read these quiet thoughts. They have a Frostian glow about them. Now, about that novel... Grady Harp, August 14

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspriational poetry March 2 2014

Poet/author Marc Mullo's brings his book POETIC POTPOURRI to life as he paints a picture with his words. He has a great passion as a great sports enthusiast as his poems reflect the Olympics, Hockey and Baseball.

In Mullo's poetry he expresses his honest feelings with today's world as he shares with the readers his thoughts in his poems titled OUR AMERICAN FRIENDS, and MIDWEST MAJESTY. But he doesn't stop there. He also includes his most inner thoughts and feelings on the war on terrorism as his first poem titled SEPTEMBER 11/ A DAY LIKE NO OTHER! reflects.

I would recommend this book as a light read. It is a short collection of twenty-two poems that express the author's thoughts and feelings about life.
3.0 out of 5 stars Rhyming potpourri of words Aug. 23 2014
By Rekha - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Poetic Potpourri is a collection of 22 short poems penned by Canadian poet Marc Mullo. The collection remains true to its name with a mix of scenarios and events.

The book starts off with a bang drawing on the memories of September 11. His sauna adventure seeks to lighten the mood. Many of the other pieces call to attention his love for his country and sports.

While there is no underlying theme to these verses, they give us a glimpse into his mind and soul, and of his delights and his concerns. Most of the verses are of rhyming nature. While I am not a fan of rhyming poetry, I did come across some gems including the tribute to Phil Collins and the French language. His dire message on global warming hits home as does his take on terrorism.

A decent effort by the poet at expressing his thoughts on the various facets of life and his feelings over the tragic occurrences that shook the world.
5.0 out of 5 stars Poetic Potpourri Aug. 19 2014

Author and poet Marc Mullo's Poetic Potpourri is excellent collection of poems with a wide variety of subjects, ranging from his native Canada to his many sports interests, including the Olympics, hockey and baseball. Each poem is accompanied by a fitting color photo that reinforces the message.

I am not typically a "poetry" reader, but on the recommendation of a friend, I took the time to read the book. You can tell just after a few poems, the passion contained in Mullo's work. I highly recommend the book. I've found myself reading several of the poems over and over again because they've resonated with me. Excellent work!
5.0 out of 5 stars Genuine Thoughts Full of Passion! Aug. 19 2014

For the avid, and even casual, fan of poetry, Marc Mullo’s Poetic Potpourri is a great addition to your collection. Well written and light hearted, the book contains 22 short poems signifying Mullo’s feelings about life. It’s clear after reading several of them that they are genuine thoughts written full of passion. Among the topics he writes about are his love of sports and appreciation for the triumphs and tragedies of our time. I was especially moved by his thoughts and insight about 9/11. It hit home in a big way for me. Take the time to read these works. You won’t be disappointed!
