"Brilliant and entertaining as SLAMMED. Point of Retreat is absolute poetry." (Jamie McGuire, New York Times Bestselling author of Beautiful Disaster)

Product Description

Sometimes two people have to fall apart to realize just how much they belong together.

Colleen Hoover entranced readers everywhere with her bestselling novel Slammed, the book that introduced Layken and Will, a young couple whose love overcame devastating hardships to emerge stronger and more resilient than before. Now, as Layken and Will’s emotion-packed story continues, a stunning and unforeseen revelation about Will’s past leaves them questioning everything that they thought they knew about each other. With the foundation of their relationship at risk, they must decide whether they are willing to fight for a future together, or to retreat back into solitude and heartache.

How far does Will have to go to prove to Layken his love for her will last forever? It will require something truly extraordinary to keep this couple together, and the decisions they make and the answers they find will change not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.

“Colleen Hoover's second novel is just as brilliant and entertaining as Slammed. Point of Retreat is absolute poetry.” —Jamie McGuire, author of Beautiful Disaster

Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover is a great continuation of the first book Slammed.

Layken and Will have been through so much and have lost so much. Both raising their little brothers and trying to enjoy their new found love they seem to get overwhelmed at times. When something big happens and they must figure out why they are together, it's with the help of friends they consider family to help get them through.

Another wonderful read by Colleen. Looking forward to the next one.

When things get hot and heavy between Will and Lake they call out a point of retreat. Is it effective? Yes. Even though they both promised Lake's mom before she died of cancer not to have sex for a year (a long, whole year), I believe, were she still alive, she'd be as surprised as me that they followed through.

The truth is true love reigns between Will and Lake. They are open with each other, sharing their ups and downs everyday. But when Will's ex-girlfriend makes a reappearance to claim him back, things between them start to go sour.

Having Will narrate the book is a lovely surprise. His voice is more mature than Lake's. Not to mention more romantic. It was important to be in his head to see how his ex girlfriend's presence affects him. Colleen Hoover might not have included as much poetry as she did in Slammed, but it's filled with enough tears and romance to make any reader hug whoever is nearby. Just make sure to call out a point of retreat if things get too hot.

So, for a while now, Colleen Hoover has taken over the YA circuit with books like Slammed and Hopeless. I bought Hopeless for my kindle - I swear, I will read it soon - and I put Slammed on my TBR list. However, that being said, I got a chance to review this book and didn't want to pass up the opportunity. So, I decided to read it without having read the first novel. Meaning, yes, this is the second in the series. Slammed was the first.

There's some point to reading a series in order. Such as finding an inside joke or two that the author doesn't explain. In a way, I like it. It's almost like an interesting extra for her loyal fans. In another way, I really wish I knew what the 'carving pumpkins' was referring too. The good news is, I'm probably going to read the first novel to find out.

This book follows the non-traditional role of two young adults that have fallen insanely in love and are met with impossible circumstances. Namely, two eleven year old brothers that are left without parents after the tragic loss of both sets.

There's a bit more drama than you'd see in your every day romance, but I think I'm okay with that. It sorts of adds dynamic to the story.

I enjoy Colleen Hoover's creative plot hooks. Her origami stars, her poetry driven hobbies, and her unconventional way of mixing adult humor (not in an R rated sense) with young kids.

The first half of this novel seemed very fan driven. It followed along the story as if I was supposed to be excited to see the results from, seemingly, her first novel in the series. In that way, this book was a bit tedious to read as a stand alone. However, since it wasn't meant as a stand alone, I don't judge that too harshly.

This was a great sequel to Slammed. Interesting to have been written from Will's POV and as I had hoped, this book did focus primarily on the relationship between Will and Lake. We were introduced to some new characters which also brought new life to the book. I would say though that some of the children seemed to be too mature for their age, but it was easy to go with it. It was very helpful to have read Slammed first as there are references throughout this book that were easy to pick up on, and a nice touch to having read the first one.

I will definitely read more by this author.

I'm only giving this four stars because it just did not live up to Slammed for me. I would have liked more poetry in Point of Retreat, especially since this book was from Will's perspective.
I liked Kiersten's character. I liked the origami aspect. The book kept me reading because I like Will and Lake so much. I wish there were more people in books, and in real life for that matter, out there. There doesn't need to be a messed up person needing saved to make a story. There are other ways of keeping readers interested and Colleen Hoover succeeds in any of her books that I have read if you like young adult romances.

She has done it again! I have found my new favourite author! I think I was more invested in what was happening in this book then I was in Slammed!
This is a great continuation from Slammed! It all felt new and nothing felt re-visited! Wow! I am super impressed with the writing skills here!
This book makes you care more for Lake & Will and all the other characters. You feel like you are right there with them experiencing it as well!

This book surrounds the very difficult lives of two teenagers, complete with stories of courage, strength, and love. Is it an easy read? Sure. But it doesn't disappoint. Loved it from start to finish!
