About the Author
Lauren McGoodwin founded Career Contessa in 2013 after experiencing a gap in career development resources for women who might be job searching, soul searching, leading and managing, or trying to find new ways to advance within their careers. With women accounting for more than 50% of the workforce and the workforce being less defined than ever before, it seemed crazy (and outdated) that a resource for us didn't exist.
Formerly, Lauren was a University Recruiter for Hulu focused on hiring, employer branding, and program management. Lauren has a Bachelors in Education from the University of Oregon and a Masters in Communication Management from the University of Southern California where she wrote her thesis on millennials and career resources.--This text refers to the hardcover edition.

This book came into my life and said exactly what I needed to hear. I needed to know I’m not alone!
Unlike so many career books that just encourage you to hustle harder in pursuit of the dream it assumes you already can articulate, this one hit me right where I am: trying to figure out what I want out of life and career, one year out of undergrad and feeling completely purposeless. Like the world has left me behind! I felt so encouraged to hear that Lauren, a resilient and successful entrepreneur, felt a similar way; it made me feel like I'm not the only one who experiences this. I'm very excited to finish the book and learn how to find the courage to take the next right step.
Buy it. Just do it. I’m telling you right now it’s not a fluffy self-help “human DIY project” (one of my favorite quotes from the book) read. Just do it.
Within Lauren’s book, she mentions how Millennial Women think, act, and feel when it comes to high expectations of ourselves and careers. While we may experience significant hurdles, we have the power to control, change and/or rediscover our future outcomes.
Having the support and wisdom of someone who has gone through the same personal experience makes the connection to this book even more powerful. If you are looking for a resource that provides you with an organized step-by-step plan versus a vague notion of self-help then this book is for YOU (and your girlfriends)!
I genuinely feel that Power Moves will inspire women of all ages, no matter the status of their career. It has truly helped me to rethink my career choices in the last few months and has provided a lot of clarity during a time where we have all faced such uncertainty.
Read this book, you will not be disappointed.
