HASH(0x99ebc228) out of 5 stars Skills and Ideas I Never Considered Before Dec 13 2012
By Walter Ballenberger - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
If, like me, you have never really thought about meeting people and building rapport as a skill set that can be learned and acquired, then Ben Night's concise little book, "The Art Of Instant Rapport: How To Build Instant Rapport With New Friends, Romantic Interests, And Coworkers" will be an eye-opener.

Relationships are an important part of life, and the more success you can have with relationships, the more your life will be enhanced, both personally and professionally. Since people instinctively judge others whom they just met within the first 10 seconds of the encounter, making a good first impression is key in this regard.

Author Night begins by discussing the importance of body language and how to evaluate your own body language and improve it. He advises that people should try to send out positive signals by standing up straight, holding one's chin up, sticking out one's chest a bit and pulling back the shoulders a little.

He also discusses the need to evaluate the person you are meeting to determine if they are a visual, auditory or kinesthetic (touchy - feely) type of person and how to make a good impression with each of these different kinds of people.

Another interesting section has to do with what he calls "the rapport cycle". This is followed by some guidelines that help you train yourself to be a good conversationalist, so that you can keep a conversation moving along nicely and avoid embarrassing periods of dead silence.

This is an interesting little read, and it brought up ideas that I'd never considered before. Again, personal relationships are important in life, and most people would do well to read this book and give a some thought to the subject.

HASH(0x9948da98) out of 5 stars Educational and Interesting March 6 2013

I really liked this book. It was interesting enough to hold your attention, not dry spouting of "you should do this" material. It made you look at things through a new perspective. I'd recommend it to anyone who interacts w/other humans - so pretty much everyone should read it!

HASH(0x99509bb8) out of 5 stars Simple to read and implement Dec 12 2012

This is the type of self-help book I like. It's concise and punchy, interesting and filled with simple and easy-to-implement actions for improvement.
The structure of the book is easy to follow and goes from the benefits of good rapport, to explaining the rapport cycle, and then what actions to focus on at each stage to improve your skills.
I'm looking forward to practicing the advice and I know that I can easily recall the major points because it's been kept simple and easy.
If you're looking for advice that you can read in an hour and start implementing straight away, then this is a great book to look at.

HASH(0x99a28510) out of 5 stars Great topic! Dec 12 2012

I enjoyed reading this book big time! I've always been deeply aware of how eye contact, open body language and mirroring affect interactions, but this book has so much more to offer on understanding social communication and reading people. Now I get why some people are easier to relate to than others in a style that feels most natural to me. I especially loved the chapter on cold reading others. What an invaluable skill in the world of business! If you are interested in engaging deeper in your conversations THIS is the book to read first.

HASH(0x99507d98) out of 5 stars Author must have many friends! Dec 10 2012

In life we all want to grow in some form or another. In this book, the author shows how we can create instant rapport with our fellow human beings using many different methods. Some are known to us, such as mirroring their postures and language, others are not so well known. Especially the chapter on 'cold reading' is interesting. The book is well written and entertaining. All in all, a good read!
