Possibly the best golf instruction book ever written. I wish I read this before I ever picked up a club.

A Big Piece of Golf History - where Celebrity Golf Coaching Starts.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 27, 2016
This was the first book I ever had on golf and recently wanted to get another copy as someone at golf was raving about it. It's almost the book that wrote the start of the celebrity golf coaches like Leadbetter and Harmon. Every major coach talks of how much they learnt from John Jacobs, and this book was probably the start of it all. Pretty much following the lead given by the Ravielli / Hogan, Five Fundamentals, it gives an English take on everything to do with the golf swing and lays it out in similar style. So if you like Hogan's book, you should have a look at this one as well- written 15 years after the 1952 Hogan book, it's a book about the golf swing of it's time - 1972 - when David Leadbetter, Butch Harmon, Jimmy Ballard, and the rest of them were just thinking that maybe there's a good living to be made from being a golf guru!
One of the best golf instruction booksReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 2, 2020
I've been played golf for over 65 years and read all kinds of golf stuff. To my mind, the 3 best instruction books are Hogan's, Dave Pelz's, and this. Clear, logical, well-written and illustrated, and the title says it all: it's really practical.

A good bookReviewed in the United Kingdom on February 2, 2020
A good picture book easy to understand of Janet and John standard. As one gets older, the message of golf needs only to be simple, which it is.

Good basic instructionReviewed in the United Kingdom on March 8, 2013
There were times last season when I felt my golf was going nowhere, even after a couple or so leasons from the Pro. Over a pint the guys suggested that John Jacobs" book, tho' old, was perhaps the best in basic instructional technique ie if you hook rather than draw the cause is ------ It seems to have worked. Aye right the new fitted set of Ping Ansers may have contributed.
