this was an interesting book. A classic story of a person's emptiness without God in their lfe and how He can fill it up and make you whole. He can make you feel worthwhile and fulfilled. A very interesting story and well written.

I have found this book to be boring. I have read the first several chapters and still have not got anything out of it.

HASH(0xa038f234) out of 5 stars Beautifully Written - Terrible theology July 28 2013
By Ebie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
A beautifully written book which distorts truth in a most compelling fashion. Michael sets out to forge a relationship with God after thirty years of estrangement. His spiritual journey culminates in the recognition of his great "sin" some thirty years earlier of rejecting the advances of his would be gay lover. Straight, Evangelical Christians are portrayed as rigid, unloving conformists who only want to form everyone into their mold. They mislead Micheal by encouraging him to stay away from the homosexual lifestyle thus, in the author's eyes. causing him to misunderstand God and His love. Michael is "restored" to faith by repenting and begging forgiveness from his gay would be lover. God is supposedly then pleased with Michael and his peace and joy is restored. Whether this book sickens or delights you will be determined by your belief system.

HASH(0xa038f480) out of 5 stars Started Out Well Oct. 2 2013

Hmmmm. A word portrait of humanity. The brushstrokes of our fallen nature clearly visible. So was the author promoting tolerance? 'I'm OK and You're OK'? Just as we are- in our fallen state?
One star for thought provoking. The author clearly uses the Christian theme as her canvas- but there is no use of the vibrant primary colours of Christianity- the very real Person called Jesus Christ. The nebulous name 'God' was used- loving God was attributed but under the use of god can be whatever and wherever our devotion lies. Food, money, TV, sex. Or our god can even become the blissful and wonderfully addictive state of spiritual highs.
Nowhere, though on a supposition of Christianity did the reason for the life receive focus. Nowhere the joy and laughter and release found in His Personhood.
Tolerance is good but we are not OK or Jesus wouldn't have needed to be each and everyone's Redeemer. It's all level ground when sin is considered. In knowing that lies the key to and the beauty of tolerance.
Even fictional philosophical pondering can be unrewarding ground at best and the MC was deeply introspective- true he discovered some helpful insight into his own nature during the descent- and the author always marked a trail for his coming up for air.
Was the book an advocate for acceptance of the garments soiled by our unredeemed nature? Certainly we love with His beautiful love- the person (ourselves included) but there is no pious point in deceitful 'we are all OK'. Not without a Saviour to clean us up and restore us to the masterpiece we were designed to be.
The lingering cloud of others' judgement is but our own soiled garment to throw aside.
Let's get on with it! :)

Filled with contradictions and agenda. Not biblical. A confusing mass of words that is not what it seems to be.

HASH(0xa038f738) out of 5 stars Hardly fiction at all! July 21 2013

I have just begun The Prayer Seeker. Having read about a tenth of the book, I can say this is an excellent read. It is very well written and draws you quickly in to the inner life of the main character, Michael. Perhaps it shouldn't be in the "Christian Fiction" category: it is definitively Christian in its character, but there is so much truth and honesty concealed in its pages that "fiction" almost seems a misnomer.

I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a relaxing, good read, which also makes you think about the big issues of life which concern us all!

I do not know the author, Anne Brooke, but I would be happy to read anything else she has written, if this is the standard of her other work.

In reading this book, I was searching myself. I wanted to find the missing art of prayer in my life. But in reading the book, it took me to a place I hadn't thought about or even considered. It helped me to look at my prayer life for what it was, where it had gone, and how and what I was going to do to recapture it. I am grateful for the author in this clear and concise way that she conveyed the message to me. I am now on my own journey to rekindle the art and love of prayer in my own life. Thank you for the Spirit in which this book was written and for not leaving God out! I would recommend this book to everyone who is seeking a more intimate relationship with the Lord through His Word, and through prayer. Thank you and God bless you!
