HASH(0x9f1d77f8) out of 5 stars Prayer Review Oct. 26 2010
By Kelly Gray - Published on
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
I had seen "The Local" and really liked it so as a newly self appointed Dan Eberle movie fan, I went ahead and ordered "Prayer." I knew it would be good, but I was kind of worried that as a similarly darkly themed film, it would be a replica of "The Local," only with different characters. I could not have been more wrong.

I was completely captivated the moment the movie started. I often multitask when watching movies (answer the phone, play on my laptop, text people, etc) but "Prayer" kept my complete attention and I cannot honestly remember the last time that happened. This is especially surprising to me because the film has one huge detail that I hadn't previously realized - there is virtually no dialogue.

That is how you can tell that a film has morphed into art and not just film. A story unfolded visually without having the actors verbally tell it - I can't accurately compare it to another film that does that because I can't think of one - and I have seen a lot of movies.

I would definitely recommend this movie as a must see. While there is no dialogue, it is safe to say that the action more than makes up for it and it is not missed.

Didn't think this movie would be able to sustain itself interestwise for the the 90+ minute running time. I was pleasantly surprised. Pulling off a movie with virtually no dialogue is a feat in and of itself but to also emote story and subtle nuance through image alone was impressive.
Dark subject matter, not the most original story, but overall an enjoyable change of pace.
HASH(0x9f1b07d4) out of 5 stars Silent Story Telling Dec 4 2013
By Carla - Published on
This was an interesting film that kept me captivated from beginning to end. Though there was no dialogue spoken until a brief moment at the end of the movie, the watcher feels the anguish and the agony of the main character after he awakens from a coma due to a violent crime which left his wife dead. As the story silently unfolds, the viewer is submerged into the underground world of drugs and lust-- we witness the series of events which led up to the violence befallen on our main character. The ghost of the dead wife follows her anguished and vindictive husband on his path of destruction as he seeks revenge on those who caused her death. The film ends with a twist that I truly did not foresee. This movie is definitely worth watching!

By Das Loffel - Published on
This was a pleasant surprise, No Dialog. Wow what a concept, this is where movies started. A simple story told in silence. Of course there is a sound track and plenty of action, but this movie makes the viewer do something that movie goers rarely do these days...think! You actually need to watch this movie and think a little. With no dialog, car chases or explosions, there are no audio cues for when the excitement occurs, so you need to watch. The story, is a simple story of revenge and penance, it's well acted, and the story is artfully told. The twist at the end was slick, worth the watch.
HASH(0x9ef8c984) out of 5 stars A FIND FOR FANS OF MINIMALISM May 26 2016
By Katherine Leach - Published on
this movie must be accepted on its own terms; it will not bear comparison to other movies. the director has provided a film for those few who enjoy severe minimalism. PRAYER is defined by a unique narrative which i wager was a labor of love to produce. those who say "minimalism? what's minimalism?" should pass by without feeling a sleight on their sensibilities ... not everyone likes niche products and whether you do or not is no reflection on the maturity of your tastes. for the fan of minimalism i think that PRAYER, once allowed to tell its own story, will prove time well spent.
