This sourcebook for expectant parents combines advice from gynecologists, obstetricians, fetal medicine physicians, midwives, psychologists, dieticians, geneticists, pediatricians, and teachers from North America and the UK. It covers what happens during pregnancy and labor, prenatal care, healthy eating and exercise, managing emotions and intimacy, fatherhood, and childbirth classes and labor choices. Stone and Eddleman (obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science, Mount Sinai School of Medicine) then provide chapters on the newborn, taking care of the baby and oneself, and overcoming problems. Reference pages on genetic counseling, pregnancy, complications, emergencies, miscarriage, newborn medical problems, birth abnormalities, and other topics are included. Many color illustrations are incorporated throughout. There is no bibliography. (Book News)

I thought that this was a highly useful reference book, although I honestly believe this to be a good companion book to What to Expect When You're Expecting - 4th Edition. This book is rich with illustrative and photographic reference and contains a wealth of information pertinent to a developing fetus, pregnancy and maternal health. The reason that I say that this is a good companion book to What to Expect When You're Expecting is that I found that this book doesn't provide as much in-depth information of the health effects and symptoms of pregnancy. I am very pleased that there are exercises listed in this book which have been adapted for expectant mothers, although I've yet to actually make use of those. Still, I don't regret this purchase at all and have given it four stars.
