Review

This sourcebook for expectant parents combines advice from gynecologists, obstetricians, fetal medicine physicians, midwives, psychologists, dieticians, geneticists, pediatricians, and teachers from North America and the UK. It covers what happens during pregnancy and labor, prenatal care, healthy eating and exercise, managing emotions and intimacy, fatherhood, and childbirth classes and labor choices. Stone and Eddleman (obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science, Mount Sinai School of Medicine) then provide chapters on the newborn, taking care of the baby and oneself, and overcoming problems. Reference pages on genetic counseling, pregnancy, complications, emergencies, miscarriage, newborn medical problems, birth abnormalities, and other topics are included. Many color illustrations are incorporated throughout. There is no bibliography. (Book News)

I bought this book when I pregnant with my first child. I read it and re-read it over and over again. The information is great and the pictures are even better! The ultrasound pictures are great and gives you a clear idea what your own baby looks like inside of you at any given point in your pregnancy. I also found it handy after my daughter was born...then AGAIN when I got pregnant with my second child. This is the ONLY pregnancy book you will ever need!!!

First off, this is not a cover-to-cover read. That's common to the three pregnancy/parenting I currently own (including What to Expect When You're Expecting - 4th Edition and Parenting For Dummies). Don't expect to find everything within pregnancy reference books to be relevant to your case.

I thought that this was a highly useful reference book, although I honestly believe this to be a good companion book to What to Expect When You're Expecting - 4th Edition. This book is rich with illustrative and photographic reference and contains a wealth of information pertinent to a developing fetus, pregnancy and maternal health. The reason that I say that this is a good companion book to What to Expect When You're Expecting is that I found that this book doesn't provide as much in-depth information of the health effects and symptoms of pregnancy. I am very pleased that there are exercises listed in this book which have been adapted for expectant mothers, although I've yet to actually make use of those. Still, I don't regret this purchase at all and have given it four stars.

I come from a medical family with a lot of healthy babies and active mothers. This is the first book that reflected the level-headed advice given to me by family members. It talks about the risks of certain activities and foods without making you feel like you've ruined your baby's chance of a healthy life by week 6 of your pregnancy. It is very informative, helpful, easy to read, and has sections for the dad-to-be as well. It distinguishes between things that have been proven to affect you during pregnancy versus things that may have an affect you during your pregnancy. It has managed to put into words some of my fears and concerns so concisely, I am constantly calling my husband over to read sections of the book.

A friend recommend this book to me when I was pregnant and have subsequently sent it to 3 other friends who are pregnant. I liked this book mostly because of the week by week play of how your body is changing and what is going on with the little miracle in your belly. It's also a great reference book. For those of you in Canada, I would recommend a supplemental canadian resource because some of the information about check-ups and what to expect from your caregiver is different in the States.

I was looking for a straight facts book, no cutesy stuff; for an all-in-one complete book to use as a reference from conception to early parenthood; for a book that would cover just about everything. The Pregnancy Bible is that book. It is thorough, complete, filled with facts, useful information and images and pictures. I looked at many other books before buying this one, and the Pregnancy Bible really is the best one I have found.

I'm only 3 months pregnant so I haven't checked out the whole book yet but for what I have read I enjoyed it very much. This book elped eased my fears and answered most my the questions I had about my first pregnancy. I also purchased the Mayo Clinic's Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy but I refence this book more often because I find the colored pictures more interesting and explanations easier to read.
