Academy Award® nominee Keira Knightley stars in the greatest love story of all time. When Elizabeth Bennet (Knightley) meets the handsome Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), she believes he is the last man on earth she could ever marry. But as their lives become intertwined, she finds herself captivated by the very person she swore to loathe for all eternity. Jane Austen’s masterpiece novel comes to the screen in the film critics said “makes you believe in true love and happily-ever-after” (Stephen Holden, The New York Times).

This film has taken over as favourite 'Pride and Prejudice' . The proposal ,moor and closing scenes were stronger and more effective than comparable ones in the Colin Firth film . ( not that the water scene in his P&P is any less spectacular ! )
This film made me fall in love with the story and Darcy all over again .
Definitely recommend this film .
For those who aren't P&P or Jane Austen fans ; it stands as a great romance film on it's own .
The only other version I have watched is the Bollywood version "Bride & Predjudice", which is much more of a comic take. Now I have to see the BBC Colin Firth version & see how that compares.
My only complaint is that we skip right past Elizabeth's wedding & do not see any of it. A special nod to the cinematography which was just superb & showed the lushness of England's countryside to perfection. I recommend this.
Whether one is an Austen devotee or not this production fails to disappoint at any level. The dialogue sparkles with wit, enhanced by the exquisite cinematography; even the complex ballroom scenes are amazingly well done. As an Anglophile I would say the visual portrait of rural England alone is worth the purchase. This film is so richly detailed it only gets better with the rewatching.
This rendition of Pride & Prejudice simply cannot be missed. In fact I now own two copies.. one to wear out and one for posterity.
