I've been primal for 2 months now and bought the cookbook to get some new ideas for meals and I'm glad I've bought it - there are some interesting recipes in there. I'm a little disappointed - the recipes seem to be a total mix from all sorts of different contributors, so there's no real consistency in the quality of the recipes. Some are just plain bland and bad. If you're already handy in the kitchen you might be better off just using a regular cookbook and substituting.

Where this book does come in really handy is the primal substitute category and dessert category - there are things in there I would never have thought of making in a hundred years. I've only tried a couple, they were both good.

I have made a few recipes from this book already and really enjoyed them. At times, they recommend getting meat or products that are not available in my region or grocery stores, but most of the recipes are fairly easy. I would like more variety for vegetables and salads, but overall it is a good book and hopefully one day it will be expanded.

I recommend this book to anyone who has special diet needs, that fact that I lost 12Lbs in a month without even trying surprised me. My energy levels and general well being has improved as well.

This is the first paleo/primal cookbook I ever bought when I was first transitioning into this way of eating, about three years ago. I've bought many paleo cookbooks since, but this is by far the one that has been the most useful to me. I hardly knew how to cook when I first started the primal way of eating (at 19 years old), and this book was extremely useful for learning some basics about cooking meats, roasts, and vegetables. To me, this cookbook is worth it for the pot roast recipe alone; it is my absolute favourite way to eat cheap chuck roast. The chili recipe is really great, too; I've cooked it several times, changing it as time goes on. Even the simple creamed kale recipe was quite valuable to a beginner like me, as I had never even heard of kale before going paleo; now, I love it. Same goes for the mashed parsnips.

It's not as slick and beautifully photographed as many of the newer paleo cookbooks, but it makes up for that by having a lot of solid recipes that work; it is also nice that there is a photo for every recipe, which is a big deal to me for cookbooks. I haven't made some of the baked goods/substitutes that are featured in the cookbook (pancakes, bars, etc), so I can't really comment on those. That section isn't very big anyway, so I wouldn't get this cookbook hoping for a lot of substitutes for grain-based treats like bread and cupcakes; there are other paleo and grain-free cookbooks that focus on those things.

Overall, I recommend this cookbook to those just starting out with paleo/primal, and especially those that don't have very much cooking experience; for a beginner cook, it's hard to beat the simplicity of a lot of the recipes, as well as the detailed instructions and tasty results.

We have tried at least a dozen recipes in this cookbook, each and everyone have turned out ridiculously delicious! This evening we had the Transylvanian Stockpot which was out of this world -- no salt added or needed even though I put it on the table. The Pumpkin Nut Muffins are easy to make and fantastic! I wish we could procure bison but it's just not available in our area. The Coconut Curry is also highly recommended as is the Zucchini Egg Bake. Seriously the recipes in this book turn out perfect every time!!

I've made a lot of recipes from the book and many I adapted. Some recipes did not turn out the way I liked. However I have been doing the paleo diet for 28 days for health reasons related to chronic pain. It's really wonderful and I am enjoying preparing meals according to the principles. No going back for me.

This cookbook had lots of new and interesting recipes to try when stuck for meal ideas. It also gave me ideas to use when changing my own favourite meals. Really helped me when beginning the Primal eating.
