About the Author
Jennifer Meier is a graduate of the prestigious California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. Her culinary career spans a decade and includes stints in restaurants, gourmet shops, and wine stores in New York, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Where this book does come in really handy is the primal substitute category and dessert category - there are things in there I would never have thought of making in a hundred years. I've only tried a couple, they were both good.
It's not as slick and beautifully photographed as many of the newer paleo cookbooks, but it makes up for that by having a lot of solid recipes that work; it is also nice that there is a photo for every recipe, which is a big deal to me for cookbooks. I haven't made some of the baked goods/substitutes that are featured in the cookbook (pancakes, bars, etc), so I can't really comment on those. That section isn't very big anyway, so I wouldn't get this cookbook hoping for a lot of substitutes for grain-based treats like bread and cupcakes; there are other paleo and grain-free cookbooks that focus on those things.
Overall, I recommend this cookbook to those just starting out with paleo/primal, and especially those that don't have very much cooking experience; for a beginner cook, it's hard to beat the simplicity of a lot of the recipes, as well as the detailed instructions and tasty results.
Took a look through the book and there are some great recipes to get you started on your 21 day program to a new life style of caveman eating for health and wealth!!!
