HASH(0x9d44cfcc) out of 5 stars Lucid Explanation of Pulmonary Medicine June 14 2010
By Eugene A. Obah - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I found the book enjoyable, even though I have been a practicing physician for more than 25 years and have been teaching internal medicine for almost 20 years. Before my purchase, I wanted a book that reviewed key principles of pulmonary diorders, which I could use as framework to organize disparate pulmonary diseases. The book meets that objective.

Aimed at medical students, it is cearly written, making comprehension easy. It emphasizes principles, allowing the reader to build his or her knowledge on a solid foundation. I found it easy to use the principles to classify various pulmonary diseases, making them easy to understand and recall. The notes or summaries at the margins afford both a quick preview and review of the salient points in each chapter.

I believe the book can be enhanced by adding three or four clinical cases at
the end of each chapter to give the reader an opportunity to apply his or her knowledge.

HASH(0x9d8c3738) out of 5 stars Phenomenal book April 6 2009

Format: Paperback
I used this book for my second year pulmonary pathophysiology course and I have not been able to find another text written as well. The chapters are organized into easy to understand chapters that are not too long but the details in the text are definitely more than sufficient. I love the side notes in the margins of the text as little reminders of what is important and the discussions about PFTs in the end and the intro normal physiology allowed me to get an amazing grasp of the material.

well written and thorough, more comprehensive than the typical med student text. Still referring back to it at the end of my third year.

HASH(0x9d438c6c) out of 5 stars pulmonary medicine Nov. 30 2010

It is a good book overall in terms of clarity and hitting most of the main points, although there are times when I feel the chapters may be lacking on specific details and it maybe too broad.
HASH(0x9d438c90) out of 5 stars Perfect level of detail Feb. 13 2013

This book is well written. There is a perfect level of detail. Each chapter provides an overall summary and then has realistic, useful sub-sections that go into further detail. Nothing is overly complicated and I finish each chapter with a good understanding of the physics behind the lung physiology. The pathology described in each chapter makes more sense due to this better physiologic understanding. Each chapter represents about an hour of medical school lecture, so it is easily read in bite-sized chunks. The language is succinct and format and chapter progression is logical. The diagrams and figures are simple enough to help with the concepts, but not so overly complicated that I can't remember them. The tables have enough blank space in them that I can add notes (like what specific conditions for each drug on page 85). One of my favorite (unexpected) features of this book is that it has about an inch and a half in each margin where I write summaries/ main points of that section - this space is far more useful than I realized it would be! The margins sometimes have little bullet or numbered summaries as well, which is a great snapshot for that page or section.
