UPDATE ON DECEMBER 23RD 2014
I have been using this waffler every Saturday as a treat. It works very well and I have not had any problems with it. The only change I would recommend to the manufacturer is to make the sliding compartment bottom accessible for cleaning. If the waffle mix overflows it inevitably goes there through the adjustable browner slider space. Aside from that, it is a very good waffler. It makes perfect waffles every time and clean up is a breeze. I normally use self raising flour (with baking powder already mixed). I always get crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside waffles. I also like to put a small piece of butter and then spread it around with a cooking brush to avoid any sticking. In addition I have purchased a waffle tongs which helps to extract the toasty waffles when they're done. Big thumbs up, worth the money and would recommend it to anyone especially those who do not have the space for a large bulky unit.
I've used it about a dozens times now and i just love this machine.
If you follow the instructions for baking that are in the included instruction book, you will have no problems.
This morning when i was using it, i had a bit more waffle mix then what was needed, but not wanting to
waste the last bit of mix i decided to over fill the maker beyond it's suggested fill amount, and well.. *pop* the latch came off.
Luckily the latch popped back on easy enough, i wont be over filling it again.
So, that's the mystery of the popping latch. It's the owner operators fault, not the machine.
This waffle maker is fan-freaking-tastic for the price.
UPDATE - Four months later... still working awesome! LOVE this waffle maker.
